We Love Kauai. Kauai offers all the benefits of a Hawaii without feeling overwhelmed by tourists. I spent a few years living in a rural area in the tropics in the 60's... and Kauai reminds me so much of the way things were back then (of course, with WiFi).
The island has many micro-climates, from jungle to desert; this is the dry side. It is common for the entire island to be engulfed in rain, and just as you reach Koloa, the rain subsides.
Kuhio Shores is right on the beach; you can't build this close anymore. There's a reef ~200yds. out where the waves break, so the water is normally tranquil by the condo.
We've never looked at renting the condo strictly as a business; it's for our fun and our guests fun. The greatest reward we get is in helping our guests have the best possible vacation. It sounds 'sappy' but it's true: it's been our most intangibly rewarding venture, and we love doing it.
One additional benefit has been the best, most diligent and hard-working housekeeper imaginable!
