Pet Friendly Rustic Cabin on the Animas River - 6 Min. to Downtown Durango

Our 3 bed / 2.5 bath cabin (Gabriel's cabin) sits directly on the Animas River on over 3 acres and is only 4 miles (6 minutes) to historic Downtown Durango. Enjoy a private river front setting with room to room to roam (and fish), while being close to all of the incredible amenities and recreational experiences that Durango has to offer. The ample outdoor space/decks with seating and a gas fire pit will allow you to enjoy the amazing setting on the Animas River.

The cabin features the expected vacation rental amenities including a fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer (laundry detergent provided) and there is plenty of parking for multiple vehicles and trailers. High speed Starlink WIFI was installed in March 2024 with speeds over 100mbs. While the kitchen is fully stocked - it does not have a dishwasher.

This home is pet friendly! We allow a maximum of 2 dogs max and the pet fee is $40/day (for a max $250 per stay).

Book at least a week and a 10% discount is automatically applied (Excludes Christmas/New Years).

Our dog loved the large space to play. We all loved the fire pit and used it several nights. It is rustic as the listing says but very comfortable and clean. Plenty of room for our party of 5.

This is a real little gem! You drive through a commercial and industrial area and drop down into a peaceful oasis surrounded by meadows and next to the river. It is quiet and feels like you are much further away from civilization. The many outdoor spaces with hammocks and seating areas draw you immediately outside. We love rustic, and this is it! Expect to hand wash your dishes, however the place comes fully appointed with everything else you will need. Our daughter was graduating from Ft Lewis, and we hosted the sweetest party on the deck and down by the fire pit. Our dog is still in mourning over having to leave his bird watching spot on the deck and the Animas River behind!!

Cozy and beautiful cabin in a serene convenient location

We loved our stay in the cabin. Comfortable beds and really nice touches and decor. I was a little surprised coffee wasn’t included in the kitchen but DD was just around the corner. Great location!!

Our stay

We love the location down by the river. It made you feel like you were far away from town when you really were very close. There were a couple issues, but the management promptly came out and fixed it when we reported it. We would gladly stay here again.

Durango River cabin

Extremely well maintained cabin and clean which is the most important to me. Property managers were quick to respond to any questions. Stairs were steep, but the house was perfect.

Great location

The location at the edge of town and on the river is unbeatable. The back porch and outdoor firepit are wonderful spots. We found the lack of some kitchen supplies a little surprising, but not major. Also wish the ventilation and windows worked little better in the heat.

Liked the river and closeness to town. Some lights did not work and could not get firepit to work. Also had problems with tv downstairs. Cabin not bad but could be better.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Train trip

Everything was great for our stay. Well located for our needs, quiet, river next to the property. Only problem was in the listing not stating that there are no bedrooms on the main floor, lots of steep stairs up and down to bedrooms, second thoughts for elderly folks, such as my mother in law, who went with us. We were able to make a bed with the couch and a mattress, we worked it out.

The location on the river was really, really great. The proximity to town and river trail great. The bathrooms were clean and the sheets were brand new but had not been washed. We did see a couple of mice and lots of mouse droppings. Around the house could have used a blower and a little clean up as I picked up cigarette butts. But overall, it worked great for us. Spent a lot of time on porch visiting friends and family. We were in town for a memorial gathering. Thanks

Durango cabin

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have visited Durango for a week plus twice in the last 3 years. It is a wonderful place to relax, hike and explore. The cabin on the river is great. It is on the rustic side, but very comfortable. This year was our second time to rent it! We love just sitting by the outdoor fireplace in the afternoon and listening to the river. A big plus is that it is so close to town!

Our happy place

Rustic but really comfortable and fun. It was clean with good amenities. Our grandkids loved the bunk beds and our kids loved the fly fishing. We all loved the gas fire pit and being right on the river. I appreciated the short drive to Walmart to provision, too. Town is a quick 10 minutes away. Guest should be prepared for the very steep stairs between levels-especially the stairs into the basement. Would be good if there were some kind of gate installed at the top before someone has a serious fall. Also there are no outside accessible bear-proof trash cans. It was a great place for a weekend family getaway.

Good to hear that your grandkids and kids loved the bunk beds and fly fishing. Thanks for the feedback about the stairs. We will have maintenance look at them to see if anything can be done to make them safer for future guests. The outside dumpsters are maintained by Waste Management, but we will also look into bear-proof trash cans as an additional alternative for trash storage. The cabin needs general maintenance. The ceiling fan does not work. Couldn’t get Tv downstairs figured out and no place to watch it. The dehumidifier were offline, not sure exactly what they were. The coffee maker didn’t work properly and was promised a new one and never received one, trash not taken out

Lovely little cabin, great property

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We met some friends in Durango for a little ski-cation and this cabin was perfect for our getaway. Two families fit nicely in the space, and the fact that it's pet friendly made it even better so the puppies could come along. The outdoor space was fantastic for getting outside, especially with the dogs. We enjoyed the fire pit and walking along the river. The location is close to everything, yet tucked away so you feel like you are miles from civilization. Kitchen was decently stocked so we could prepare meals easily, but be sure to bring your water bottles because there was only one glass to be found in the cupboard.Very nice place!

Nice Property

The property was nice and worked great for us. We had some issues with main toilet not flushing and then kitchen faucet not working. We got around these issues eventually but it seems like items should be replaced since this is a Vrbo and it is apparent these need fixed.
