My boyfriend and I spent several days in Granada before heading to Corn Island. We thoroughly enjoyed the colorful and historic city, and regretted having to leave. However, when the plane landed on Corn Island, we knew we had found something very special. The island is just slightly larger than a postage stamp, covered in palm trees, surrounded by perfect blue ocean. We grabbed a cab and headed for Long Bay. I've traveled extensively, but never have I seen anything as beautiful as what we saw when we departed the paved, and drove up the sandy road that leads to the Lodge at Long Bay. Blue ocean gave way to white waves, gave way to bright green water, to white sand, to the palms that surround the most perfect vacation spot I've ever seen. We stayed at the Tree House, and were floored at the value of this private paradise. The beach was the stuff of legend, sugary white sand with hardly another soul in sight. Don and Kathy were excellent hosts, as were the caretakers, Jesse and Helen. Fresh coconuts are available to compliment your breakfast, and Helen makes phenomenal lobster on the grill. The accommodations were nothing short of perfect. Breezy balcony over looking the beach. Hot showers. Comfortable bed. This place is heavenly! We took a snorkel trip with Yellow Tail at Sandy Peachy, and highly recommend them. Doña Lola's is a great place to check out, not for the food so much as the "wow, this is fantastically weird" . Marlene's was our favorite place to eat. Make sure you stock up on cash before you visit. Go see this fantastic island!
