Cranes' Rest: Cozy Homer Family Home Near Downtown & the Spit
Cranes’ Rest is a cozy Homer family home tucked into a peaceful, tree-lined setting about 1.5 miles from downtown. With 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 7 beds, and room for up to 9 guests, it is a comfortable home base for families, fishing trips, wedding guests, and Homer getaways.
Big south-facing windows fill the house with Alaska light, and the open living, dining, and kitchen areas make it easy for everyone to gather without feeling crowded. The large deck is made for slow mornings, coffee, sunshine, and quiet evenings after a day exploring Homer. You get the best of both worlds: a calm green setting with quick access to downtown Homer, the Spit, restaurants, galleries, beaches, trails, and local activities.
Inside, the home has a warm, practical layout with space to cook, relax, visit, and rest. The kitchen is set up for real meals, the living room has plenty of comfortable seating, and the bedrooms offer flexible sleeping arrangements for groups and families. You will often see eagles, cranes, and float planes overhead, and the yard and deck give the home a relaxed Alaska feel without being far from town. It is not a hotel or a luxury resort. It is a loved, comfortable Homer home with character, natural light, and space for people to be together.
Please note that this is an upper-level home with a separate lower unit. A long-term tenant lives below with a private entrance. Guests have private use of the rental space, but we ask everyone to be mindful of heavy footsteps and late-night noise.
The nightly rate includes up to 7 guests. Groups of 8 or 9 may include an additional guest fee to help cover added laundry, supplies, cleaning time, and wear. Local taxes are included in the nightly rate and are remitted according to local requirements.

I am originally from Houston Tx. I moved here in year 2000. Homer was smaller then, having a local population of 5,000 or less. I like knowing that I have been here and a part of it's growth stages and special uniqueness shaping me into who I am today. I have been a vacation home host since 2017. I have always enjoyed accommodating others because by nature, I pay attention to the little things that enhance almost anything. If I don't know about it, I will strive to.

I chose East Hill because it is the best blend of nature and convenience in Homer. You are tucked among spruce and birch with birdsong, moose sightings, and wide southern light — yet you are only about one to one-and-a-half miles from town and a quick drive to the Homer Spit. The road up the hill has beautiful views, and the neighborhood stays peaceful even in peak summer.
From the house and deck you may spot eagles, sandhill cranes, and the occasional floatplane overhead. In spring, moose often travel through the area, so keep your camera ready. I love that you can spend the day out exploring, then come home to quiet, sunshine, and a true Alaska “tucked away” feeling without being far from restaurants, shops, and everything that makes Homer special.

Cranes’ Rest is a rare mix of “tucked-away in the trees” and close-to-town convenience. You get Alaska quiet and privacy, with Homer’s restaurants, shops, and the Spit only a short drive away.
What guests love most is the sunlight and spaciousness: large, south-facing windows, an open living and kitchen layout, and a big deck that feels like your own little lookout. It’s common to spot eagles, sandhill cranes, and the occasional floatplane overhead—and in spring, moose frequently pass through, so keep your camera ready.
The home is set up for real-life comfort, not just sleeping: a well-equipped kitchen for cooking your catch of the day, plenty of room for groups to spread out, and a flexible sleeping setup including a private loft-style third bedroom that works great for families, friends, or fishing and photo trips.
If you want that classic Homer feeling—peaceful, bright, and nature-rich—without being far from everything, this is it.
