Immediately after booking in Feb. 2026, this guest requested an early check-in for his Mar. 2026 reservation at 12 PM. Our standard check-in time is 4 PM, & check-out is 10 AM. This schedule allows our cleaning & inspection teams adequate time to prepare the property for incoming guests. The guest was informed of the early check-in & late check-out fees, which are required in advance, & that availability for an early check-in would be limited if another reservation occupied the property the previous night. Guests needing to check in that early are generally advised to reserve the night before. Despite receiving this info, this guest did not confirm or respond. We also require completed guest registration at least 24 hrs in advance to avoid last-minute issues. On the day of arrival, a guest arrived early at approximately 2 PM without completing the required registration process. He approached my 19yr. old son while he was conducting the pre-arrival inspection & insisted that the early check-in had already been discussed & approved, placing him in an uncomfortable position & ultimately gaining access to the property before registration was complete. An early check-in fee was assessed & eventually paid after VRBO became involved. From that point forward, the stay became increasingly difficult. The guests repeatedly resisted our registration requirements, initially providing only lists of numbers instead of valid identification. They later submitted photos of driver's licenses that included obscene gestures, covered identifying info, duplicated IDs to account for the number of guests, & blurred critical details. We were advised that the reservation could be canceled due to multiple violations of both VRBO & our policies, but we chose to work through the issues bc of their wedding event. We are not in the business of ruining anyone's vacation or creating unnecessary difficulties. However, we also will not allow ourselves to be taken advantage of, mistreated, or disrespected. We work hard to accommodate our guests & routinely go above & beyond when assistance is needed. We value every guest & appreciate the mutual respect & honest feedback that help us improve the experience for future visitors. While we were never notified during the stay about the scissors or water spots on the microwave, we appreciate the photos & have added those items to our cleaning inspection checklist moving forward. We thank this guest for his feedback; however, based on this experience, we would not host him or members of his group again. We also believe it is important to document this experience so that other hosts have an accurate understanding of the challenges they may encounter should these guests choose to book with them in the future.
