OBX Family Trip 2024

The Salty Piper is very conveniently located near the beach. There is a wooden walkway that starts at the car port and goes directly to the beach. It is also very close to shopping and Harris Teeter. We had a great time in this house and it fit 2 adults and 4 kids perfectly. The only complaint I have is that the kitchen is a tad small. Really only enough room for one person in there at a time or it gets cramped. However, the kitchen was very well stocked with utensils and cookware. We enjoyed staying here!

We have finally found our forever house after coming to the OBX 9 times in 15 years. It is close to the beach, boardwalk right behind the house is awesome, pet friendly, sleeps our family well, lovely kitchen. We have already booked this house for next year same time. Looking forward to it already. Thank you so much for opening up your home to people needing a respite at the ocean.

Nice place, poor communication

The house is lovely and was just right for our needs. Convenient access (with many stairs) to the beach. We were disappointed that the "ocean view" was completely blocked by numerous houses. Communication was very confusing and frustrating. I booked through VRBO, but I was supposed to download the Beach Realty app for all instructions - and the app wouldn't download to my phone. One set of emailed instructions said to stop first at their office before getting to the property, whereas another said we would get emailed our keycode. There were 2 phone numbers. The disposal wasn't working and after 3 phone calls, I found a form to download for maintenance. (The disposal was fixed within one day, which was great.) My final complaint is that I called the Corolla office to ask if the home had beach chairs - because some reviews said it did. The very nice person told me there were no chairs - unless previous guests had left them. So, we rented chairs. When we arrived, we saw, in the parking area, a large accessible storage unit with " BEACH CHAIRS" clearly written on the front. I thought, through VRBO, I'd be communicating with the owner. I would not rent from a corporation managed VRBO again.

Reviewer Comments: My family and I had a wonderful time staying here in June of 2023; we were pretty nervous about going on our first vacation with a young baby but a comfortable, clean and conveniently located home base made the trip a big success.Location a quick walk from a fairly quiet beach was great; but also don't underestimate the benefit of being right around the corner from Harris Teeter (and Duck Donuts!). Amenities were great, especially the swing and hammock to hang out on the deck. Cleaning crew did an amazing job and the home was spotless when we arrived. My one quibble was the wifi was a bit unstable and occasionally had some issues.

The layout of adult and kid bedrooms, the beautiful beach decor, and the easy beach access was just amazing. This is the first time in over 20 years of coming to the OBX as an adult that I felt like the house had exactly what I needed - everything in the kitchen, a nice hose/outside area for cleaning off our dog and kids, chairs and beach toys, a basketball hoop, a comfy couch for hanging out, games for the family to play, a beautiful deck with comfy chairs. the list goes on and on. Considering this is a dog friendly house, this was the LOVELIEST house I've ever stayed in - so well maintained. My whole family kept saying how much we loved this house. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Family Vacation

This house was amazing. Exactly as pictured in the photos. It also had EVERYTHING you can think of. The distance to the beach couldn’t be beat. We really enjoyed our stay. Though dog friendly, there was no place for our dog to do it’s business outside without walking a bit away from the house. There was also a ton of tall grass with little spikes at the tip that would get stuck on our dog or even us if we got too close, they hurt to remove. So just need to keep an eye out for them. The couch in the living room was totally collapsed and has seen it’s day. None of us would really even sit it on it cause you just caved in. But to be honest it wouldn’t deter me from renting again, the house is just that great. Over all we really really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back to OBX soon!

The house is very nice, comfortable, and close to the beach, just a walk down the boardwalk and the stairs over the dunes. The house is well maintained and stocked. It's a nice peaceful neighborhood. It's our home away from home for one glorious week a year. We have stayed in several rentals in the same vicinity and the Salty Piper is the best for our needs!

Meeting in the middle; NC meets Virginia

We appreciated the ability to be able to bring our dogs and loved that there were dog couch covers provided. The effort that the owner took to make their home inviting and comfortable was evident. The access ( boardwalk) to the beach was great. My suggestion for a future upgrade would be a gas-grill. We were disappointed with the management company that the linens we ordered were not there upon our arrival. It was so late when we arrived we had no other choice , but to sleep on our beach towels. When I called the next Am they were apologetic, but refused to offer any discount for the linens mistake; stating “ it does not work that way”. I decided to get a refund and drove 30 mins. to Walmart to buy linens. Other than that inconvenience our stay was lovely.

The ONLY thing that was difficult were the stairs and we knew that before going we just thought(my mom and Larry) they would be able to get up better. They are elderly and it was quite difficult for them. But, what a great house to stay in!! Our family had the best time in Corolla (first timers on the Outer Banks)!! Would defiantly use Beach Realty again!!!

Our Anuual Week at OBX

It is well laid out, well furnished, and within a convenient distance of the beach - just down the boardwalk and over the dune. We did have an issue this year that we reported and was promised it would be taken care of - which it was not. I even reported it again at checkout, but received no response. An apology or acknowledgement of some kind would have been nice. We have already reserved our week for next year.

It is such a short walk on the boardwalk and over the dune to the ocean. The house is well appointed and well maintained. It has everything we need. The only thing I would have changed this year is a new comforter in the upstairs master bedroom. Beach Realty is a great company to rent from as well.

Wonderful time!!

When we pulled into the neighborhood we were a little worried about all of the standing water we had to drive through but we pulled up to our house to find it completely dry(thank goodness!! The house looked just like the pictures we had seen on the website. The house is very nicely decorated and clean, it really felt like home. My only complaint might be the beds are a little to hard. It was nice that the house inside and out looked just like the second guessing!! We will definitely be back to stay again. Whoops....one more thing.....our cable was out the whole week we were there, but we didn't really mind because we weren't there to watch tv we came for the beach.

Aprill 2022 Stay

We loved this property. I was under the impression it was a bit closer to the beach based on the listing but the walk was very short. The house was gorgeous, clean, well equipped with literally everything you needed including beach chairs and a basketball hoop which was a hit for our family. Kitchen was small and not a ton of storage room for food but so many cooking items it was awesome! Highly recommend!

Decent for Price

Arrival/departure was super easy as we didn't have to check-in at a separate office - front door code was simply emailed to us so we could go straight to the house. The house itself was fine (pretty basic) but could use a deep cleaning. There was trash behind and under furniture and around the exterior of the house. The couch and area rug in the small living room were absolutely filthy. The kitchen was like a galley kitchen - very narrow and hard for more than one person to be in there at one time. The kitchen faucet would never turn off completely and constantly leaked. The latch on one of the bedroom sliding doors was broken (door unlocked) so a board between the door and the frame was needed for security. It was nice that each bedroom had a corresponding bathroom without needing to share plus the outdoor shower. Loved that there was direct access to the shared boardwalk that went straight to the beach. The decks/hammocks were OK but no real view of the water. Nails on the deck need to be hammered down or replaced with deck screws as a lot were sticking up and caught our bare feet - ouch! Would have been nice if the house included some beach chairs and umbrellas. Being across the street from the well-stocked Harris Teeter was PERFECT. It was about a 20 minute drive to Duck for restaurants and better shopping. The rental agency provided a 3 oz bottle of Palmolive dish soap, a sponge, and 2 trash bags so plan to supply literally everything else yourself!
