The Island Sands Resort on Maui is located oceanfront in Maalaea, just a short four miles to Kihei and a scenic 15-mile drive to Lahaina. When you stay in this Island Sands Resort condo, you'll enjoy spectacular sunsets, whale watching in the winter, and walking along the five miles of white sand beach. This two-bedroom Island Sands Resort condo is complete with air conditioning, cable TV, telephone, free WiFi, washer/dryer, fully-equipped kitchen, and an in-room safe. This secluded oceanfront property features a private oceanview lanai overlooking scenic Maalaea Bay. Island Sands Maui has both a pool, BBQs, and free parking. Centrally located close to all of the Valley Isle’s activities, shops, and restaurants, the Island Sands is one of Maui’s best condominium values. Spectacular sunsets are a daily event and guests often see humpback whales frolicking in their winter playground.

Parking notes: There is free parking available for 1 vehicle.

Please note: this home resides in a noise-sensitive area and the owners participate in our Good Neighbor protection program. Our smart home technology will alert our team if excessive decibel or occupancy levels are detected, allowing us to reach out directly with a reminder of maximum occupancy and quiet hours. This technology is privacy compliant, and only monitors the presence of decibels and devices-not any personal conversation or information. Thank you for supporting our efforts to be good neighbors!

Damage waiver: The total cost of your reservation for this Property includes a nightly damage waiver fee, plus tax if applicable (the “Damage Waiver”). (A discount may be applied for stays of 28 nights or longer, if permitted.) The Damage Waiver covers you for up to $3,000 of accidental damage to the Property or its contents (such as furniture, fixtures, and appliances) as long as you report the incident to the host prior to checking out. The Damage Waiver fee eliminates the need for a traditional security deposit.

Living room has window AC unit which works okay with one bedroom that is connected to the living area. The bedroom was warm. It was good that the owner had three fans available to cool the room down in warm weather. *** The guest parking is very very narrow.

The only good thing about this place is the view from the balcony We saw many whales. The condo is in need of updating and a really good cleaning. There is only one towel set per person. We were there for 9 nights so we had to do laundry every night, we were on vacation so that was not okay!

View is amazing! But…

All amenities were available from towels to beach chairs and boogie boards. The view is outstanding! The area is quiet with a couple restaurants within walking distance. This property suffers from age… all furnishing are tired and could use some love. The second bedroom down the hall lacked any air flow from the air conditioning. Everything was in working order.

Beautiful view and great location

This is a good starting point for just about anything you want to do on the island. It's mostly quiet at night, though you will definitely hear the next door neighbor's TV if you open the door and windows for the breeze.. they keep it very loud and it's always on. The kitchen is well-stocked with all kinds of dishes and utensils. Weird thing: Be prepared for two of the cabinet doors to hit the kitchen ceiling fan if you run it. There's a nice selection of reading material, and it was also very nice to have all the beach gear (I promise that umbrella was already broken). We stayed here for the price and the location, but had a mostly enjoyable stay.

Not worth the money. The unit was very outdated and dingy/dirty. This unit seemed to lack pride of ownership and clearly is simply a source of revenue for someone. The couch was dirty, bed skirts were brown from the floor half way up to mattresses, toilets were dirty, trim not fastened in bathroom, doorway to hall was broken and splintering, appliances outdated. The whole place needs a paint job. As for amenities….parking spaces extremely narrow, only 4 bath towels provided per bathroom which kept us doing laundry daily, there was no extra paper towels, only two spare rolls toilet paper, and two kitchen trash can liners. At one point we were locked out of the condo because the code had been changed but no one told us. The layout is terrible with the tv in the living room and the tv in the bedroom back to back only separated by the partition. The two tvs constantly battled with volume. If the ppl in the bedroom wanted to watch their tv, the ppl in the living room had a hard time hearing their tv. If the ppl in that bedroom wanted to sleep, it was impossible if someone was in the living room watching tv. The manager of the complex was rude. Our very first night there, we were sitting at the pool while the kids swam. The “manager” came in and demanded to know where we were staying and informed us rudely that ppl live at the condos and work in the morning and therefore our kids should be quiet. It was 7:05pm when he approached us and quiet hours start at 10pm.

The on-site resident manager always has the priority to ensure all guests enjoy a comfortable, safe, and respectful environment during their stay, while also upholding the rules and guidelines that are clearly outlined for all visitors at check-in. The situation you referenced involving the pool was addressed in accordance with those guidelines, and with consideration for the many full-time residents who call this property home. Quiet hours are in place to promote a respectful community for everyone, not just vacationing guests. Communication is key to avoiding misunderstandings, and we regret that this effort was perceived as otherwise. Regarding the towels and linens, each unit is stocked according to standard occupancy limits communicated in our policies. Four bath towels per bathroom is the norm, and additional laundry needs are left to the discretion of our guests, which many of our visitors find sufficient. As mentioned in your welcome materials, initial supplies (toilet paper, trash liners, paper towels) are provided as a courtesy "starter pack" to ease your arrival—with the understanding that guests may need to replenish during longer stays. As for the parking, we do understand that space may feel limited; however, the parking design was established during the original development of the property, and unfortunately, it is beyond the scope of what we can modify today. That said, our guests have typically managed well with the current layout. Finally, we do apologize that your accommodations did not meet your expectations. We always want our guests to feel comfortable, and we wish you had reached out at the time, allowing us the opportunity to move you to a different unit that may have been more to your personal standards. We're confident another option on the property may have suited your preferences better.

Roaches, noise and poor management

We should have have trusted some of the reviews before booking. There were cockroaches in every room. The front window is missing a section. So, you can hear all the outside noise. The neighbor does keep her TV on at full volume. It starts about 4 a.m. and you can hear it in the front bedroom. It's worse because the front window is missing a section and you can hear the TV as if it were in the bedroom. The worst part was the management company wouldn't help out with any issues. They won't even communicate with you unless you write them continually. While the location is pretty good and the views are nice, I wouldn't recommend staying here.
