The house and location were superb, but I booked the venue for the water. In my opinion, the VRBO listing lacked transparency and the facility lacked appropriate signage.
Had I known that the water in the 30’ X 60’ pool would be unswimmably hot and, indeed, had an allowable maximum temperature of 106 degrees Fahrenheit (F), I wouldn’t have booked this VRBO. I expected the hot tubs to have hot water, but did not expect the pool to be as hot as the hot tubs.
The hot springs facility did not display required signage listed in Circular FCS 3 warning of dangers associated with hot water and exclusion of children aged 5 and under from entering the pool/hot tubs with a water temperature over 100° F. (Note that manufactured hot tubs have a maximum temperature of 104 degrees F.) With hot springs water entering at 133° F, evidently, in the heat of summer, 24 hours between bookings to drain, clean and refill is not enough time for the water to cool to a comfortable temperature. Also note that the indoor domestic water for both hot and cold was hot. Draw your bath water half an hour before you bathe. The water pressure in the showers was weak so that jets dribbled. The lush green lawn pictured on VRBO is dry and yellow in summer.
Lastly, Sleeping Child Hot Springs is required to have a calibrated thermometer in place available for patrons to check water temperature. I asked the host for a thermometer. She provided two. They gave different readings, so neither was reliable.
