What a great property and host! My family and I loved everything about our week stay. The greater Camden area is beautiful, with mountains right along the coast and many great small lakes, including Hobbs Pond which this cottage is located directly on. The nearby general stores have some necessities and anything you forgot to pack can be picked up 15 minutes away if they don't have what you need.
The pond is beautiful. We used the provided canoe and single kayak to explore the 1.5 mile long pond. We brought an inflatable SUP which allowed the 4 of us to be on the water all at once, a truly great experience. The views change as you paddle around exposing changing vistas and the wildlife is great. About 60-70% of the opposite shoreline is all wild and most cabins are set back so the shoreline isn't just a showcase of homes and cabins, you get to see more nature.
We saw so many different birds at the bird feeder each day and also saw bald and golden eagles on the lake, along with many loons and ducks. We taught our kids how to fish, mostly catching large mouth bass and 1 small mouth bass. The swimming right off the dock is great. At the time we went, it was approximately 5-6 feet deep just off of the dock, gradually getting deeper as you go out in the lake, no weeds in the immediate dock area.
The cottage was very clean and equipped with everything needed and everything worked as expected. The TV works off of a roku box although we brought our own Amazon Fire TV box which worked well. Internet speed was slow at about 6 Mbps but it was enough to be able to stream a show to wind down for 20 minutes at the end of a day or to connect to dreaded work emails. The main bedroom is away from the lake with its own bathroom and there is a small bedroom (one twin bed) opposite the other full bathroom and laundry room. The loft was really great with two twin beds with a nice sunrise view each day. The main living/dining area is great, only beaten out for the best room which is the covered deck.
The single lane road in and out is part of the experience. You feel like you are dropping into another world as you descend about 250' in elevation from the main road. Although we went in the prime time month of Aug and most cabins appeared to be occupied, the lake was very quiet through the week, with a few more motorboats on Fri/Sat/Sun. Most days it was very quiet with just people paddling around, exploring the full lake.
Can't wait to go back!
