Wish we could have stayed longer! The cabin was great. We loved the big porch and porch swing. Since we stayed in August, we spent more time on the porch than inside. There was definitely a lot of wildlife activity. We had a momma deer and her babies inside the fence one day, a bear cameo across the street one night (trash day) and the squirrel we named 'Reggie' who ran laps around the railing each morning while we sat on the swing and drank coffee. Green Mountain Falls is such a cute, think perfect setting for a Lifetime movie, town at the base of Pikes Peak. The only place we ate at was The Pantry. Breakfast was good and the patio was SO cool...and unexpected. It's a short drive to downtown Colorado Springs and even shorter drive to Pikes Peak highway, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Springs, and Manitou Cliff Dwellings. We spent most of a day in Canon city, roughly 1 1/2 hr scenic drive one way from the cabin, visiting the Royal Gorge Bridge and riding the train through the gorge. On our last day, we drove through Woodland and found Paradise Cove. A very short, easy hike through a gorge to this small swimming hole. Beautiful spot for a picnic and a swim...a very cold swim when we were there. In all, we would most definitely stay here again. We loved the cabin and it's location in a sleepy town in the mountains. Staying in Colorado Springs would maybe be a bit more centrally located depending on your plans but what's the point of going to the mountains if you're not staying in the mountains! For us, it's all about the location, the patio, the coffee and the bed. All were A+ for us. Had we eaten more at the cabin, the kitchen had everything a person needs to cook and prep meals; your car is protected under a carport (which I can imagine in the winter would be absolutely necessary); if you bring the kids, they have an awesome playground; and the neighborhood is very quiet. Outside of that, the only other advice I have is GO to the taco place you pass on 24 between Colorado Springs and Green Mountain Falls. It's called Bust Colorado. YUM!!! Trust me, like choosing this cabin, you won't regret it.
