You won’t forget the wide open spaces or this rustic, tiny Birdhouse in small town Claude, Texas. Claude is where Paul Newman's "Hud" was filmed, & it sits on a flat prairie that suddenly drops into the 2nd biggest canyon in the US--Palo Duro Canyon. Tour the State Park, explore trails & caves at Merus Adventure Park, or watch bison grazing nearby. You'll be just a few miles from Amarillo with its HUGE steaks & Cadillac Ranch. Or just relax in the quiet & count the brilliant stars at night.
Our brand new tiny home has everything for a comfortable stay--kitchen with all the amenities, like coffee & tea fixins, snacks, toaster oven/air fryer, full fridge & freezer, hot plate, microwave, all the utensils, etc. It has a comfy queen-size memory foam bed, extra bedding & pillows, roomy shower, desk with lots of charging stations, dining table, reading chair that rocks with books to browse, closet with hangers, lighted makeup mirror & full-length mirror, blackout curtains. Owners live across the street, so you have privacy, but we're here if you need something.
Our welcome book highlights things to see & do within driving distance - minor league baseball, antiquing, shopping, museums, national monuments, historic sites, and eating. Or simply walk about town enjoying life as it was a few decades ago. You'll want to come back for the cleanest air and water, most amazing vistas, and friendliest people you'll ever meet. My husband and I have grown up in the Texas Panhandle, where we have the cleanest air and water, the biggest vistas, and the most down-to-earth people anywhere. He's a veteran and retired law enforcement officer, and I'm a retired paralegal. We've traveled to 48 states and several countries. But we love coming back to this big prairie that drops off into the second largest canyon in the U.S. - Palo Duro Canyon. This area has a deep history with the Comanche Native Americans, the great horse people and rulers of the Plains. Our agriculture feeds the world, and now our wind turbines and solar farms are energizing the state. We are on the main highway between Dallas and Denver, and I-40, formerly Route 66, is just a few miles from our home. We'd love to host you in our tiny Birdhouse!

Our Birdhouse is located in a town of 2,000 people, where Paul Newman's "Hud" was filmed. We're 20 miles from Amarillo, with its iconic Cadillac Ranch and "free" 72-ounce steak at the Big Texan restaurant. We're 12 miles from Charles Goodnight Ranch State Historic Site--he saved the southern bison from extinction and was the inspiration for Woodrow Call in "Lonesome Dove." We are also 43 miles from Palo Duro Canyon State Park, 49 miles from Alibates Flint Quarry National Monument, and 75 miles from Caprock Canyons State Park.

The Birdhouse is brand new, but sits on a concrete slab where on old house once sat. We packed it with amenities that any traveler will appreciate. It's at the western edge of our town, across the street from our home, and it has a magnificent view of some gorgeous sunsets! It's a quiet, relaxing place, where you can walk the streets safely or sit on the porch and wave at the neighbors going by. The town of Claude is like a throwback to simpler times, with its courthouse square, small school, and laid back attitude. You may hear a freight train going through town, but you won't hear big city noises, traffic, or sirens. We have the cleanest air and water, and the stars at night are brilliant. Come be our guest and see!
