Welcome to Dune Swell! THIS is island living, just steps from the ocean! Relax at the heart of the island. Buxton is centrally located between all of the best spots to kiteboard, wind surf, fish, beach access, surf, paddleboard, walk, hike, and bike.

Convenient, family sized living all on 1 floor, literally a 60 second walk to Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Prefer kite sailing? We are less than a 2 minute drive to Canadian Hole. How about Surfing? We are walking distance. Fishing? We are minutes from some of the World’s most amazing fishing at the Point.

Our cottage is only a minute’s walk to Buxton's iconic Beach District where you will find several excellent restaurants, Hatteras Lighthouse & National Park, fishing & tackle shops, eclectic local shops, convenience stores, ice cream & mini-golf.

The area is safe, quiet, and is excellent for those looking for a retreat, with the fun and adventure Cape Hatteras offers only steps away!
Relax, we’ve prepared our cottage with all the essentials you’ll need. Well behaved domesticated pets are always welcome. We provide all linens and towels for a worry free stay.

Dune Swell is a large 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom cottage on the 1st floor with an enclosed screened front deck. It’s perfect for a family of 5 looking to enjoy Hatteras without breaking the bank!

The place was nice and clean. You can't see the ocean from the property, but you can hear it. It is literally just a hop and a skip away. The only negative was the people upstairs. They was so loud and it sounded like they was going to come through the ceiling.

We were supposed to stay at this place but 2 hurricanes came thru and changed our plans for us. We were not able to stay. The host was on top of everything and refunded our money immediately and offered a discount for if we ever want to stay there again.

Amazing property on a quiet dead end street. LOVED the new webber charcoal grill. Made great memories and will always have a great story to tell. Host was amazing and a huge help when i left a bag back at the home. Super helpful super clean. Will keep an eye out for the same place next year.

The house was nice and had everything we needed. While it showed some use, and we needed to purchase trash baags and some other things, it was a good deal and a great location. We had perfect weather until the last copld of days when the beach disappeared because of the approaching front.

Spring Break

Property was very clean and just as described in listing. Kitchen was well stocked with cookware and utensils for preparing meals. The only issue we had at all was finding several nails in the parking area and yard from what appears to be some recent renovations.

Although we made the best of the circumstances and it was a short trip, we were quite saddened by what we found and the condition of the beach. It was advertised that this location was just 1 minute walk from the beach, and that is correct. But what is not told is that the beach is unusable due to beach erosion. A lot of debris and concrete make it unsafe to even be on that part of the beach. The lighthouse was under repair and closed off. The park was full of broken houses that have fallen into the ocean. It was so sad to see and not a safe spot to visit. I understand it was kinda off season but many places were closed. If I had been informed of this, I would have changed my plans. I felt like we were deceived.

We loved this property! Don't get me wrong--it's basic, but it does the job. Family of five stayed comfortably for a week and really enjoyed it. There's only one indoor shower, but the outdoor shower works well. The kitchen is stocked well enough though definitely check to make sure they have the pans you need before shopping. If you're looking for comfortable, quiet, functional and super close to the beach this is perfect. It's a nice location--walking distance to a few restaurants, and a quick drive to many others. VERY short walk to a fantastic beach. It never got very crowded and there are several protected areas nearby. Great price for a great location!

Unfortunately, my experience with the host's communication was disappointing and felt unprofessional. As a result, my first few days of vacation were negatively impacted. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this unit.

Karen decided to cancel her reservation a week before her arrival because of "weather". She demanded a full refund. I advised her of the VRBO cancellation policies, and that a full refund was not possible at this time. She then contacted VRBO to demand a full refund, and when that was denied, Karen told VRBO that my property was being misrepresented on my listing, and that it was dangerous. VRBO demanded I provide proof of this not being the case, or they would refund this guest in full. I had 24 hours to respond to her bogus complaint. After I proved my property was safe, Karen continued to request a full refund, and when she was advised there would be a fee to cancel she decided she was going to come instead and stay. This caused a lot of confusion with VRBO and so much ack and forth communication to deal with the situation, and I did not receive the payout until a full week after this guests stay AFTER I had to FIGHT them for payment- all because this guest tried to circumvent the rules to get out of the reservation and instead of handling it like an adult. Her false and unwarranted complaint created a very stressful situation.
