Garden View Lodge is located in Lucas, Kansas, directly across the street from the Garden of Eden art site.
Story has it that it was built for a son of the Garden's creator, Samuel Perry Dinsmoor, in the 1920s. It may have been a kit house that was delivered on the railroad.
It's a neat, clean, and cozy house that has been well preserved, with a small town feel. It reminds us of visiting our grandparents’ farmhouse.
It is a fully equipped house located in Lucas, Kansas, Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas and one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. We have a kitchen for your use, but please be advised that we do not have a dishwasher.
For those of you traveling on I-70, Lucas is 18 miles North of the Wilson exit. You will have full access to the house and plenty of privacy.
Just 8 miles from Wilson Lake, it's a great location for swimming, boating, fishing and hunting trips.
You can see the Garden of Eden art site across the street, as well as the Miller's Park sculptures, and you can walk downtown in three short blocks. It's a quiet setting.
Besides being the Grassroots Art Capital of Kansas, Lucas is also one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas. There is a lot to see in this small town of 400 residents. You could spend a full day touring all of the sites.
Garden View Lodge is close to the Garden of Eden, Miller's Park sculptures, the World's Largest Collection of the World's Smallest Things, Grassroots Art Center, the Florence Deeble House and Rock Garden, Bowl Plaza, Fork Art Park, Switchgrass Art CoOp, the Dada Museum, Post Office, liquor store, hardware store, library with an internet hotspot, convenience store/gas station with bait shop, restaurant, and a first-run movie theatre. This is a small town and most everything is closed by 10 pm, so please keep this in mind if arriving late (like for meals or gas).
A recently added attraction is Bowl Plaza, a very original and highly decorated take on public restrooms! You can walk to all of these locations.
For those of you who are general aviation pilots, the Lucas airport, 38K, is 1485 MSL. Its asphalt 17-35 runway is 2940 x 50 feet with constant overnight lighting. You can taxi to the adjacent gas station for unleaded gas. (No av fuel available.) It is a walkable distance to our house.
We have DIRECTV , 2 TVs, and 2 DVD players. Feel free to bring your own video DVDs, or the library has videos for checkout. There's a free wireless hotspot at the library, at the intersection of Second and Main Street, and most smartphones receive good service in the area.
Many guests rely on bringing their laptops or tablets for entertainment.
For Wi-Fi, you can use the Garden of Eden’s service, which does not require a password.
We have lawn chairs, a picnic table, and a Weber grill available if you'd like to use the yard.
Best of all, this is a quiet setting where you can enjoy a night's rest.

Pets are allowed but we do ask that you tell us ahead of time you are bringing them, they are not left unattended, and you clean up any messes inside and outside.
Kitchen, bathroom, a sitting/dining room, and four bedrooms. You can use our grill and lawn chairs. There is a stereo with an audio cable to plug in your iPad or phone.
Linens, sheets, blankets, coffee, tea and creamer are provided. We have shampoo if you need some.
Our hostess, Mary Ann, lives nearby, and works at the Garden of Eden and the Library, but you can check yourselves in with our keypad lock whenever you need to arrive.
Other things to note

Please note that Lucas is 16 miles north of Interstate 70 in central Kansas. The route from I-70 to Lucas is a scenic 20 minute drive which passes by the east side of Lake Wilson and across its dam.
Traveling this Post Rock Scenic Byway is a pleasant way to wind down from the intensity of Interstate travel.
Exit the Interstate at exit 206 (Wilson/Lucas exit), and drive north on Kansas Rt. 232. At the intersection of Kansas Highway 18, turn left. Lucas is less than a mile away.
You can also arrive and depart via Highway 18 from the east or west.
Gas and supplies are available on K-18 Highway on the east side of town at Home Oil Service, which is adjacent to K-18 Cafe. The cafe is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is a classic cafe with great biscuits and gravy. Their fried chicken is amazing as well.
If you plan to cook at our house, please plan ahead and bring the groceries you need. Lucas doesn't have a large grocery store, but Wilson and Russell have grocery stores.
Home Oil Service, on highway 18, stocks basic groceries, sells pizzas, sub sandwiches, beer, fishing tackle, and hunting ammunition. They also have a mechanic on duty.
