Cleanliness was the problem.My wife and I have stayed in many short-term rentals. This was the dirtiest house we have ever rented, especially at this price.The house smelled like kitchen grease. The outside of the microwave was coated in thick grease—my wife could carve her name in it. After the first cleaner “finished,” the house still smelled aweful. Two damp, rolled-up towels were left on two of the four beds. We had 8 adults listed. He did send towels but they didn’t get there until the next evening. The owner did send a second cleaner the next day that evening. Even the cleaner said this house is not clean … she did do a better job.The backyard was a mess. It had not been mowed in weeks. Weeds 1–1.5 feet high were in the playground and several flower barrels. The owner said he had fired the mowing crew and sent a crew the next day. The lawns were cut, but the high weeds were still there when we left four days later. He also said he needed to do a deep clean of the place and would be done after we leave. We stayed Thursday–Sunday on a football weekend. The property still should not have been listed in that condition.What worked: Location is excellent—close to the stadium and one block from N. High St., with groceries, coffee, and other businesses nearby. The beds were comfortable.What didn’t: The house is old. Smelled like grease. Very steep steps going upstairs. The cooling unit didn’t reach the second floor very well.

We take cleanliness concerns seriously, but important context is missing from this review. This group entered the home before the stated check-in time while our cleaner was still completing the turnover. Our cleaning company reported that its employee was followed throughout the property, treated aggressively, and subjected to inappropriate and discriminatory comments. Due to the seriousness of those concerns, the incident was documented and reported to VRBO. Despite that conduct, we responded immediately to every concern raised. Additional towels were delivered, a cleaning manager was sent to perform additional cleaning, and lawn service was arranged the following day. Most importantly, we offered a 100% refund on two separate occasions if the guests preferred to leave. Both offers were declined, and the guests chose to remain for the entirety of their stay. The property has maintained highly positive reviews for the past three years and has not received a prior cleanliness complaint of this nature. For additional context, the guest submitted a list of 14 complaints within the first 24 hours of arrival while simultaneously declining our offers to terminate the stay and receive a full refund. We stand behind the speed and extent of our response and firmly reject the suggestion that concerns were ignored. Every issue raised was addressed as quickly as possible. Due to the treatment of our staff and the circumstances surrounding this reservation, we would not host them again.

We came to Columbus for the CrossFit Games at the Convention Center. We loved the house and the location. We were close to grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants. The neighborhood was great. If we ever come back to Columbus we will stay there again. Alex, the host was excellent.

Quiet and Comfy

We cannot say enough about this beautiful home! Between the spacious bedrooms, luxurious bathrooms, comfortable beds, and gorgeous kitchen, we could not have asked for a more wonderful experience. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the Harry Potter closet. The host was attentive and made sure that our stay was enjoyable. We would love to stay here again.

Our family group of six had a wonderful time at Alex’s place. The kitchen and living room were connected spaces where we could catch up and relax together, and everyone had their own bedroom. The bathrooms and kitchen were thoughtfully renovated. We walked the quiet neighborhood streets, including walking to Yellow Spring Brewery for drinks and food. Any last minute shopping was nearby. Another plus was our family event at Understory was minutes away by car.

This is an amazing, super clea property that gives you a quiet stay with the ability to walk to OSU Campus, North and Short North for dining, shopping, and entertainment. Also has quick access to I- 71 which can get you to Downtown, COSI, Westerville, and Canal Winchester - all within minutes. The kitchen, dining, and living rooms are very nicely appointed with granite countertops and great appliances. Everything you need is in the kitchen to cook and serve meals. The rooms are very comfortable and the kids absolutely loved the Harry Potter room under the stairs. Alex was a great host and provided some great recommendations for dining with the family. Homey and relaxing

This was our first visit to Columbus; we couldn't have chosen a better house. It's charming with a modern kitchen and bathrooms; exceptionally clean and with all the amenities needed. It's close to grocery stores and convenient to highways and downtown. The hosts were thoughtful--providing directions and recommendations--and very responsive.

High end bathrooms

Our group of 4 women enjoyed our stay. Beds were very comfortable. Both showers are gorgeous with great shower heads. Kitchen is also gorgeous. Good gathering space on main floor. All was clean, neat and tidy. Safe neighborhood, lots of restaurant choices. Grocery store nearby. Would recommend for anyone.

Beautiful Home; Great Location

We used the rental as a home base for a variety of activities around town and found this location to be very convenient. The high-end appliances, super comfy beds, and large towels were a nice touch, and the kiddos loved the Harry Potter nook, hanging out on the third floor, and of course the hot tub. Note - it got unusually cold while we visited and the garage was too cold to even hang out in until the last day, but we still got to enjoy the hot tub once it warmed up. We also had an issue with the locks at checkin and Alex was extremely quick to respond and provided multiple interim solutions until the issue was remedied a short time later. Great communication!

City gem

Lovely updated home with a great city location. It is a corner lot with a driveway. Walkable to coffee shops, grocery store, restaurants. Bathrooms were beautifully updated as well as the kitchen. Two large bedrooms with king size beds. Third bedroom was smaller and the bed was up against a wall which made it a bit difficult to get in and out. The loft is great for kids. We were there during a hot humid week. A/C worked great. Loft had a unit cooler and it was a bit stuffy on that floor but understandable given the weather. Hot tub and garage was a great atmosphere but since it was so hot we only used it once. Well stocked home from laundry detergent, toilet paper, all necessities. The living room sofa is large and cumbersome but it would definitely not affect my rating. It met all our needs - would be a great place to stay during football season!

Originally from North Georgia, I now call Columbus, Ohio home, where I live with my wife, Hollie. We both work remotely in the healthcare field and share a deep love for travel, the outdoors, and discovering the local character of every place we visit. Whether we’re hiking scenic trails, exploring vibrant neighborhoods, or enjoying a quiet moment in a new city, we believe in the power of connection—both with people and the places that shape them.

Hollie grew up in Ohio, and we’re lucky to have strong roots and a supportive circle of family and friends in both Columbus and Cleveland. We take great pride in welcoming guests to the areas we know and love, and our goal is to offer stays that are warm, thoughtful, and reflect the unique spirit of each location.

A little more about us:
Hollie is passionate about the arts and especially musical theater. She’s managed children’s theater programs in Dallas and Nashville, and she’s dedicated to helping kids discover and follow their creative passions. I’m an avid hiker and have explored trails around the world—dreaming one day of combining my love for the outdoors with landscape photography.

We’re also parents to two adventurous little boys who inspire us every day. Through travel and hosting, we hope to teach them the value of kindness, curiosity, and the courage to dream big.

It’s rare to find a 100 year old home that has all the modern touches of a new age house and can offer a new kitchen, new bathroom remodel, fenced backyard, covered hot tub and tons of kids activities and games to better accommodate families. We have younger kids and know the importance of offering safety features in the house for families with kids of all ages. The Harry Potter room is something unique and something every kid falls in love with when they visit. It’s also one block to 5-6 restaurants, 0.2 to a gym and a large grocery store, and it’s under 2 miles to Ohio St.
