Serpent Lake Luxury Retreat

Experience the tranquility of Serpent Lake from our new “rustic chic” guesthouse, designed to offer both beauty and comfort. This thoughtfully curated space features a fully equipped kitchen, plush bedding, and a private saltwater hydrotherapy hot tub — the perfect spot to unwind as the sun sets over the lake.

Located just 2.2 miles from the world-renowned Cuyuna Mountain Bike Trails, our guesthouse offers the ideal balance of adventure and relaxation. Glide across the water with complimentary use of two kayaks and five paddle boards, including a large “party board” for group outings.

We warmly welcome dogs with prior approval ($75 per stay, up to two under 50 lbs).

Your hosts, Tim and Kelly, live nearby to ensure your stay is seamless, offering as much or as little interaction as you prefer. Privacy is always respected, but friendly assistance is just steps away should you need it.

We had a wonderful week’s vacation at this cabin! Everything went smoothly, from booking to arrival to anything we needed onsite to departure - Kelly & Tim are wonderful hosts. The cabin itself is new, modern & very nice - so nice that I was worried my kids would wreak something! The rental included lots of outdoor fun - hot tub, paddle boards, kayaks, floaties, a boat tube, plenty of outdoor chairs, Solo Stove & more. It’s also equi-distance between Crosby & Deerwood, so plenty of options if you want to venture out. I highly recommend this lovely property!

Super clean with great amenities! All of the outdoor lake and campfire items that you can think of, and a nice location relative to downtown Crosby. That side of Serpent Lake is beautiful in the summer. Our kids especially enjoyed the swim platform and dock. It was perfect for our family of 5.

We had a fantastic time at this cabin. It was spotless, very well-stocked with everything we needed, and the hot tub was a definite highlight after days spent exploring. The lake access was perfect, and we brought our paddleboards and loved paddling on the beautiful mine lakes. We also biked on the Cuyuna bike trails—which were absolutely awesome and well-maintained.The setting was peaceful and relaxing, and the hosts were great—responsive, welcoming, and clearly care about the guest experience.One thing to note (that wasn’t mentioned in the listing) is that the owners live in a house on the same property. It wasn’t an issue for us at all, but it’s something we feel future guests might want to be aware of.Overall, we highly recommend this cabin and would absolutely stay here again!

Girls Weekend

We absolutely loved our stay at Cuyuna Cabin! We’re highschool besties that get together to relax and catch up and this place was PERFECT!! Super cozy couch and lighting. Kitchen was stocked with everything we could ask for since we cooked every meal. We spent countless hours in the hot tub. Loved it so much already talked about coming back next year for longer! Thanks so much for having us!

Great Cabin

Cabin was awesome and close to the lake. Great for a family looking to fish, kayak , or just relax. The hot tub was a wonderful way to end the night!

Beautiful cabin and great hosts

We absolutely loved our stay! Cabin is so modern and open and comfortable. Lake is quiet and perfect for relaxation. Hosts are great people and always available for any questions or issues. They had the cabin move in ready for our week away. We didn’t want to leave!

Something for everyone

We had a great stay at this really nice lakefront cabin. Hosts were very responsive to any questions, place was the most well-appointed short-term rental I've ever stayed at, and there's something for everyone to do, including hanging out inside the beautiful cabin, on the great patio with jacuzzi, on the dock, paddling the lake, heading into town for food/drinks/shopping, city park playground for kids, or biking/hiking/fishing at Cuyuna. Great spot.

Great location, adorable property!

The property was on beautiful Serpent lake, the rental is so cute, and had everything we could possible need! Comfortable and clean, the hot tub was lovely! The hosts were so kind, and had kayaks, and paddleboards for use! You can tell the hosts put much consideration into the design and layout of the property, it was welcome and just perfect for a weekend away! Close to many dining options, and activities! I would highly recommend this property, as it offered everything we needed and then some!

Cabin Paradise

I just spent 3 nights at the most beautiful cabin. It really is prettier than the pictures. A little context about my trip- I am a woman in her early 30s who needed a little getaway from work and school. This was my first time going and staying somewhere alone for days in a row. I want to express how incredibly SAFE I felt on the property. The area was very nice, quiet, and welcoming. I had absolutely no troubles taking the cover off and on the hot tub by myself. The salt water hot tub was one of the big selling points for me. It was cold and rainy during most of my stay, but the hot tub was still so enjoyable. Kelly and Tim are the most amazing hosts and go out of their way to accommodate and make sure I was all took care of the whole time. The coffee bar was impressive. The area is also beautiful. Was able to find some pretty trails near by. There was some really good restaurant options between Crosby and Brainerd/Baxter. I'd say this little trip exceeded my expectations for my first solo trip. I will definitely be back, and I cannot wait :)

Home away from home!

Kelly and Tim were great hosts! We were all extremely happy and honored to be their first booking! The cabin was immaculate and the hot tub just steps from the patio door was an amazing way to relax! The cabin had everything needed for our weekend plus more; it felt like our home away from home! We are looking forward to our next stay with Kelly and Tim!

Our Journey to Serpent Lake

Tim and Kelly first met in May 1993 at The Serpent in Crosby Memorial Park while completing check-out dives for their scuba certifications. A few years later, in 1996, they began dating and spent much of their free time camping and scuba diving all over Minnesota.

After getting married, they purchased their first cabin on Little Thunder Lake, north of Outing. For years, they drove past Serpent Lake on the way to their various cabins. When they sold their cabin in 2015, they missed the area deeply. So, when COVID hit and Tim began thinking about retirement, they started looking for a place to call their forever home.

In October 2020, they found it — their retirement home on Serpent Lake. Since then, the property has become a true labor of love. With a large family of six children and eight (and counting!) grandchildren, they decided to build a cabin for extra space — and as a place to live while eventually rebuilding the main house. When it isn’t in use by family and friends, they rent the cabin to share the beauty of Serpent Lake and the Cuyuna area with others.

Tim retired in May 2023 and got to work building the cabin himself, with occasional help from their sons and friends. Kelly focused on design, décor, and finances, putting her creative touch on every detail.

The result is a unique retreat designed to feel welcoming and memorable — featuring Shou Sugi Ban wood finishes, a saltwater hydrotherapy hot tub, and high-quality linens. Tim and Kelly hope every guest feels at home, falls in love with the lake and cabin and leaves already planning their next visit.
