Luxury inn TAKEYA Honkan（竹屋本館）

Built over 100 years ago, Takeya Honkan is a fully licensed, fully renovated, traditional Japanese townhouse. Equipped with modern amenities including free WiFi, air conditioning and cable TV, the property has been renovated to the highest standards. However, traditional touches like a Japanese bath tub and rock gardens bring to mind the atmosphere of old Kyoto.

Built over a hundred years ago, Takeya has been completely renovated to modern standards, yet keeping its traditional charm. In this house, you will find the full suite of modern amenities, such as WIFI, cable TV and air-conditioning, as well as traditional touches like the gorgeous bathroom and indoor garden with its own cherry blossom tree. With 2 western bedrooms and a large Japanese-style tatami room, this spacious house can sleep up to 8 people in comfort. Featuring 2 full bathrooms and an additional toilet, the house is well equipped by Japanese standards.

From Kyoto station, take bus 50 and get off at Kamishichiken bus stop. Facing the 7-11, go up the first road on the left and walk 2 minutes to the Post Office, then turn left at the next alley. Takeya is the third house down.

Located in Kamishichiken, the oldest Geisha district in Kyoto, Takeya is situated in beautiful heritage surroundings, with a real Geisha house located just around the corner!

In this quiet neighborhood, you'll enjoy the atmosphere of old Kyoto away from the hustle and bustle of busy tourist areas.

Every 25th of the month, a flea market is held at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, which is just 5 minutes walk away.

Ninnaji Temple and Hirano Shrine are located a little further away, both of which are famed for their late-blooming cherry trees, so you can catch the sakura even if you arrive after the peak cherry blossom season.

Bus, taxi

From the Kamishichiken bus stop, buses 10 and 203 lead to Shijo Kawaramachi, which is within walking distance of Gion and all the major departmental stores. Bus 10 (opposite direction) will also take you to Ninnaji-temple.

5 minutes walk away lies the Kitano Tenmangu bus stop. From here, you can catch the rapid, tourist orientated 101 and 102 buses, which will take you to both Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji, the famed Golden and Silver Pavilions, as well as other major tourist destinations.

10 minutes walk away is the Kitano Hakubaicho station. From here, you can catch the Randen line tram to Arashiyama, where the the UNESCO World Heritage Tenryuji-temple lies, along with the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.
