For 19 years, my in-law family and I spent one week at this lake home. If you are looking for a huge lake home with lots of living space, a nice size kitchen, plenty of room to spread out and have your space, this is the place for you. If you are looking for an awesome beach area, this is not the place for you. When we first began coming to Jan's Place, it was really, really nice, but as the years went on, things started to fall apart or break and nothing was done about it. The deck was finally replaced a few years back after many years of a board being replaced here and there and much nervousness about it's stability. The 30 some steps going down to the lake are in desperate need of replacement...several of the boards are crocked and falling apart - a real hazard. If not careful, the boat lift will take your hand off as it doesn't work correctly. For 19 years we had the same two docks and for many, many years they both needed to be replaced...again several boards here and there have been replaced and the blue one is not level and super wobbly. For 19 years we had the same exact sheets on all of the beds! The king size room is great, but the other five bedrooms really need new mattresses. It's a mystery how sheets that are washed weekly can last that long. If you have a rainy week, the cabin is just huge and allows for everyone to have their space if needed, or if you want to gather together for games, etc., it is quite frankly perfect. However, probably the last 5-7 years the beach area has been absolutely horrible. The grass is long and not cut very often and when it was cut, it was often after we had arrived and we had to stand around and wait while it was cut. It's extremely mushy and wet down there and the last 5-6 years there have been large pieces of plywood randomly placed around to allow you to walk and not get soaked up to your ankles. Many of these boards are old, not in good shape, warped...believe me, several slivers were acquired. I realize that areas by the lake can be wet, but what should be done is maybe a large patio be built or there must be something to fix this problem. Last summer we spent most of our week at the neighbors beach area, as he was kind enough to let us hang out there when he went home for the week. Again, we had 19 years here and made a ton of great memories and we're thankful for that. It's just too bad the owner doesn't take some of that money she makes and replace and fix things!
