Fantastic chateau. Nothing could be better! We stayed 6 families (23 people) for a wonderful week. Especially the kids enjoyed the amazing pool areal all week. The surroundings are beautiful and good for running and walking.

Château exceptionnel

Très belle propriété permettant d'accueillir jusqu'à 12 couples dans de bonnes conditions. Les pièces de vie sont adaptées aux groupes, la cuisine est équipées en conséquence. La piscine (chauffée) est un plus lorsque la météo le permet. Encore merci pour ce weeekend

Amazing chateau and grounds - exceeded all expectations!

Our group of 16 people, four families, with older teenagers, stayed in Chateau de la Bijoire in July. The chateau and grounds were beautiful and easily exceeded our expectations. We particularly loved the pool area, the table tennis in the barn and the boules. And when anyone wanted a quieter time there were so many options of places to go in the chateau and the grounds. All correspondance with the owner, Hugues, before our arrival, was informative and easy, and Michelle, who welcomed us at the chateau, was so helpful. We also enjoyed two delicious meals prepared by her during the week. We had lots of intentions to have days out to markets and La Rochelle, but we enjoyed being at the chateau so much we stayed around a lot more than intended. We loved the beach at La Tranche sur Mer, about 25 minutes away, where the teenagers had surf lessons. An easy morning or afternoon trip. A really lovely holiday!

Cadre magnifique pour une grande fête en vacances

Nous avons passé un week-end dans ce très beau château pour fêter l'anniversaire de ma fille en famille, de 6 mois à 93 ans ! Tout le monde a passé de très bons moments. Le château est une très belle demeure, très bien aménagée, avec l'exploit par les propriétaires de nous faire sentir comme chez nous ! Très bon accueil de Michelle, et très bonne cuisine ! Merci pour tout !!

Memorable experience !

We came from all over the world to celebrate Christmas together as a family - 23 people including grand-grand parents and new born babies - in France. We found in the chateau de la Bijoire an amazing castle that felt like home ! Probably because it is a true family house. The spacious bedrooms (all master bedrooms), the amazing living areas, a fully equipped kitchen, the warmth of the place despite being in the middle of winter… they had even installed a Christmas tree ! All this made our stay a week to remember. I can’t thank Hugues enough for his hospitality and Michelle who welcomed us for her availability.

Une propriété d'exception dans un cadre bucolique

Nous avons passé une semaine merveilleuse entre amis (11 couples) dans cette magnifique propriété de famille où chaque couple avait sa chambre, sa salle-de-bains et ses toilettes personnelles, ce qui est très rare. Nous disposions également d'une grande cuisine parfaitement équipée et de vastes pièces à vivre où nous pouvions nous retrouver tous ensemble. Le tout aménagé avec beaucoup de goût. Tout était parfait : équipements récents et de grande qualité, calme absolu, extérieurement et intérieurement (insonorisation étonnante), charme infini. Nous avons été très bien accueillis par la représentante des propriétaires qui s'est montrée très disponible et discrète durant tout notre séjour. C'est avec regret que nous avons quitté le Château de la Bijoire qui recèle une atmosphère incomparable.

A fantastic Chateau and location

We stayed at La Bigeoire as a group of 18 family and friends for a week from 20th to 27th July and had an amazing time. The Chateau is beautiful both inside and outside. It is even better than the beautiful photographs on the Website. When we first arrived we were met by Michelle who looks after the Chateau, she took us on a tour to see the kitchen and all the rooms which are all beautiful, and there is also a well-equipped utility room which was very useful. Although we didn’t use the basement it has table football and ping pong as well as an extra seating area. The kitchen has everything you need to cater for a large party there are plenty of good quality kitchen utensils, plates, cutlery, drinking glasses, pots, pans etc., The outdoor area near the cottage and swimming pool is contained within a walled garden with a huge barn like space with a full size table tennis table and lots of outdoor seating and BBQ. The swimming pool is excellent as is the surrounding area with beautiful plants and flowers Despite being 18 people, there were so many places to go, if you wanted some quiet time is easy to find plenty of quiet corners both inside and outside the Chateau It was a pleasure to briefly meet Hugues the owner who gave us a brief history of his family, how the Chateau came to be built and how he came to be the present owner and about its recent renovations. We would like to give Michelle a big thank you for being available to answer any questions and making the handback at the end of our stay a pleasant experience. And also a big thank you for going out of your way to finding a set of car jump leads to get one of our cars started to help us on our way home. We had such a fantastic time we are already planning a second visit in 2021 ***** (FIVE STARS ALL ROUND) Best wishes from Guernsey in the Channel Islands

Incredible Chateau in beautiful location

We stayed at La Bijoire in a group of 25 friends for a week in June and had an amazing time. The house is so much better than the lovely photos, with many more fantastic spaces than are shown. When we first arrived we were so excited to see every area and each room which are all beautiful. The Chateau itself is amazing, with lots of historic details other than the modern, well equipped kitchen and also the utility room which was very useful. The basement was also good fun, with table football and ping pong as well as an extra seating area. The outdoor area near the cottage and swimming pool was a nice surprise - it is a walled garden with a huge barn like space with a full size table tennis table and lots of outdoor seating and bbq. Despite being 25 people, there were so many places to go, it didn’t feel busy. Hugues was very helpful before our stay and Michelle, who looks after the Chateau and is also available as a cook was great. Her food was amazing as we all enjoyed a lovely three course meal at the end of the week. I couldn’t recommend this Chateau more.

Château magnifique et très confortable

Grandes pièces restaurées avec mobilier d'époque idéales pour un séjour luxe tous en famille. Superbes chambres décorées avec goût et toutes avec salle de bain. Beau parc et à proximité de la mer. Très belle piscine dans les communs. Vraiment parfait.

Best Family Summer Holidays Ever !

Getting 26 people from all over the world, aged between 04 and 85, aligned around a summer holiday destination is a challenge in itself. Getting 26 big smiles and 26 "thumbs up" by the time the holiday is over, is something else all together. Chateau de la Bijoire and its charming owners consistently apply the first law of successful marketing: under-promise and over-deliver! The "de Bretagne" family wants you to feel at home, and that's exactly what it feels like by the time you have to leave... The Château: if you liked the pictures on the website (www.chateaudelabijoire.com), you will love the real thing: it's like a boutique hotel for private use. Very spacious rooms, tastefully decorated with great care for materials, design and quality. Excellent en-suite bathrooms, each finished to a very high standard. Great (and grand) drawing rooms that we actually used very frequently, a roomy dining room and a modern, very well equipped kitchen. The basement hides one of the many attractions for the children: a café-style "babyfoot". Outdoors: the many terraces follow the sun around the house, so there is always a place to enjoy the sunlight or sit in the shade. The beautiful garden is great for all kinds of adventures, and our kids provided us every morning with baskets full of blackberries, skillfully picked around the pond by rowing boat. The Basse Cour: this is where the pool is situated, as well as a large, covered, open-air play area with ping-pong table. The charming outbuildings are basically the old stables and storage rooms that used to support life in the big house in the old days. The pool is modern and equipped with an electric floating cover, which makes opening and closing pretty convenient. Another plus is the UV-water desinfection unit, which is a much less agressive method than the regular chlore treatment. Activities: one of the reasons for us to pick la Bijoire was the close vicinty to the atlantic coast and its beautiful beaches. We discovered the region and spent many hours on our surf boards (manusurfschool.com). There are many other activities and some interesting cities in the vicinity, which should cater to all different tastes and age groups. In summary, a highly enjoyable experience with only one major down-side: time flies too fast at la Bijoire, so next time we'll come for two weeks! His wife, Catherine de Bretagne is a graduate of the Beaux Arts in Paris and has a long experience of art teaching. In September, she organizes in the Chateau one-week painting courses for all-levels.

HISTORY OF THE CASTLE
In 1873, Charles de Bretagne marries Gabrielle de la Bajonnière and inherits the Property of La Bijoire in Vendée.
He decides to demolish the old dwelling in order to build, in two years, a new one, flemish style, just like the one of his ancestors. The property has remained in the family for four generations.

The Vendée is a pleasant area with a mild sunny climate that offers many cultural, entertainment and sport activities and discoveries, for all ages.
In a fourty-hectare parc, the property includes the Castle, which can house 15 people and a also an independent house for rent with a view on the Castle, which can house 10 people.
The swimming pool is located in the charming complex of dependancies built before the castle, in 1855. The chapel, of the same period, completes this beautiful overview.
