I'm not sure where to start our review. We knew that bad weather would be heading towards SGI. In our initial weather report, we were told there was an 80% chance of rain Sunday through Thursday. Seeing that we had already booked our house and that we had taken the time off from work, we decided to go regardless. Because the first Saturday was going to be clear, we drove most of the way down on Friday and arrived at the beach on Saturday morning. Knowing the weather report and that we may only have one or two clear days, the owners allowed us to check in at 10:00AM! I cannot tell you how much easier this made our first day, especially given that we have two dogs and a young son. We honestly thought this might be our only beach day and for the owners to be so generous was a pleasant and greatly appreciated surprise.
Well, the bad weather forecast not only got worse, it ended up turning into tropical storm Antonio. It was only one of 10 or 12 storms in the month of May since 1850 to turn tropical! We became even more grateful the owners had been so kind and allowed us the extra day. The forecast for the week was even worse at this point with a 90%-100% chance of rain every single day. We were sure our vacation was ruined. We made the best of the storm time with the many board games and cards that were provided. We feel extremely blessed though because after the storm passed on Monday, we had beautiful skies and pink skin by the end of the day on Tuesday. It did not rain again the rest of the trip and we were able to get beach time in every day!!
The home is beautiful with tile floors and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. There is a beautiful view of the water from the main deck and we were provided everything we would need for our trip. I don't recall ever staying in a rental where we didn't need to buy a kitchen utensil or pot/pan in order to cook.
As an avid fisherman, I think the closest beach access to this home (9th St.) was ideal as we caught over a dozen pompano, numerous Sea Trout, Whiting, Jacks, and even some sharks (little ones, of course!).
I'm sorry for the long review but we've never had an owner who was so willing to help a family make the best of a bad situation, even if it ended up being a great stay. We also want to thank Robin, the rental agent, for her help in making sure we were kept safe during the storm and making our stay one of our greatest vacations.
We'll be back next year!
