Wish we'd known: electronic lock was broken (didn't seem recent), dishwasher wasn’t working (taped sign asking hand washing only- was old), WiFi not working, slow leak from water cooler (had to adjust position so we could catch water to prevent water damage), many windows don't have screens so choose between roasting (heat wave when there) or mosquitoes, & there was construction next door (air compressor, compound miter saw, etc. going off at 7AM). Given previous reviews, we were prepared for clutter & mixed condition of things, just not all the above as well. Location is beautiful. Steeper walk to the ramp will be challenging for some (my 92-year-old mom did it once). It’s do-able but mobility-challenged should be prepared. Best things about this cabin are location on lake, generous supply of paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, & rowboat (plus gear), & that it’s truly dog friendly (rare). One of the 4 bedrooms on lower level only accessible from outside (with its own bathroom). Small things like some light bulbs need replacing, none of the electronic candles inside worked, & dishes/glasses are unevenly clean. Despite the clutter, there is a great deal of charm in the living /dining areas, decks, & dock with great views.
We don’t hold the construction noise against the owner or the leak (but if you say you’re sending someone & they never come...). We do feel the owner should have been more upfront (at least update the listing) to reflect no dishwasher, no lock (seems a safe area- but construction was occurring so tricky judgment call). Owner did disclose in advance modem wasn’t working but said a new modem would come the day after we arrived (and every day after- and it never did). We’ve stayed at many rental properties internationally, & each has their different quirks which we try to roll with. We just prefer full disclosure so we’re prepared ahead of time. There’s a low inventory of lakefront properties (especially this summer) that are dog-friendly & this one truly is. Our lab loved the water (yes, our teens jumped in too). Being on the water during the day & board/card games (brought our own) at night made for a wonderful family break. It’s clearly a well-loved home that would benefit from a little more investment, but has a “take me as I am” approach (it's surrounded by multi-million dollar homes on either side). Owner has offered us a credit (for above issues) but haven’t received it yet (2 weeks later). Will try to update this review.
