A beautifully restored 1912 Arts & Crafts home in the Corsicana Carriage District, The Writers House is available for full house rental. Designated as a retreat for writers as part of the Corsicana creative community, it can now be rented by anyone who appreciates an updated authentically restored grand home. This 2,300 square-foot two-story house with a wrap-around porch was said to have been designed by the Gage Architectural Firm of Dallas. It is fully furnished with beautiful antiques. The restored antique lighting and rich wood trim are original.
The first floor of the home features a living room, music room with baby grand piano, wood-paneled dining room with library filled with books on art and literature, breakfast room, fully stocked kitchen, a full bathroom with shower and laundry room with washer and dryer,
Three bedrooms on the second floor each include a desk, full-sized bed and closet. Two full bathrooms are accessed from the hallway. What once was part of a sleeping porch is now a tiny nook with a tiny desk. All bedding, linens and kitchen appliances are provided. The central cooling and heating are brand new. The five fireplaces are now only decorative, not to be used.
Authentically restoring and furnishing The Writers House has allowed this gem of the Corsicana Carriage District to shine in its original warmth and beauty. It is now open for booking.

My husband and I live right next door to The Writers House in an 1866 historic home.
My business partner and I are among the artists and writers who have moved to the small town of Corsicana, building creative community in historic spaces which we could not find in the city. Old brick buildings have become big studios and affordable old homes have been life-enhancing. Porch-sitting is an art. Neighbors are neighborly.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由
The Carriage District of Corsicana still has beautiful well-built homes from the 1800s and early 1900s whose original charming personalities have not been lost to extensive remodeling; they are ripe for restoration. Small town life has been a mind-opening relief from our former frenetic city lives. Since moving to Corsicana from the city we have become deeply involved in preservation of the Historic Downtown, old homes and very old churches. The Corsicana town government has been an enthusiastic partner in any and all preservation/restoration efforts.

Seldom does one find such a grand old house that has retained every bit of its original character and is still so sound. They really don't make them like this anymore. Having been used for storage for decades, the interiors were preserved: the chandeliers throughout, the rich wood detailing and doors, the five fireplaces were all ready and waiting. Hundred-year-old mahogany paneling was harvested from a city mansion that couldn't be saved and now warm our gorgeous dining room/library. Restoration was done by a team of skilled craftsmen. The careful insertion of a modern kitchen, bathrooms, new electricity, central heat and air, and all new plumbing took three years to complete. The antique furnishings were all donated by friends and neighbors who want their family heirlooms to be part of this labor of love. We are recreating neighborhood here.
