TERRIBLE-DIRTY-SPIDERS-MOLD-UGH!!!

We have been renting houses for family vacations now for 7 years. This absolutely by far was the most filthy house we have ever stayed at. The owner did not disclose that the lake was a 50 hp lake until the morning we checked in. The house was not cleaned, swept, mopped at all. After the owner left after checking us in, we started cleaning because we had already had family on the way. The vacuum did not work. We found BLACK mold in the closet upstairs where the blankets were, as well as black mold around the shower curtains, and vents. I called the owner and voiced our concerns and told him we wanted some type of refund (monday). I continued to call the owner every day with no answer or call back. Finally Friday the owner called me back and said that he would be at the house at 9am on Saturday to discuss the matter. 9 am Saturday he showed up with the Old Forge Police!!! When I tried to reason with him and show him the filth, mold etc, he told me he could not see it! I have pictures to prove everything if anyone wants to see it!! I will be contacting Home Away, the health dept, and the building dept in Old Forge as well as the BBB to make a complaint. IF I COULD HAVE GIVEN A NEGATIVE STAR RATING I WOULD HAVE!!!

Beautiful Spot

House was filthy. Owner needs a cleaning service. Spiders all over. Kitchen disgusting. Living room furniture a disaster. Mattress, bedding from the civil war. Owner was despicable. Evolve was wonderful at mediating for us.

Just AWFUL

Horrible, house was filthy. It was loaded with spiders. House smelled of mold and mildew. Beds and furniture were old and totally uncomfortable. The only saving grace was that the weather was great and lake was nice, we spent all of our time outside. Kitchen was dirty and I only used pans and paper plates that I had brought with us. I would never had stayed there if the 14 of us could find somewhere else to stay. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Beautiful home on a quiet lake. Fun and relaxing for the entire family.

14 members of my family stayed here for a week in July 2018. The home was large enough to easily accommodate us all with plenty of seating for us to all eat dinner together and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes. The lake was beautiful and one of the quietest lakes I have stayed on. There were two kayaks that we were free to use but we did not have a need for them. Due to the ample parking we were able to bring along our trailer to carry our own kayaks and had room to park the 3 vehicles with space left over. The second refrigerator in the garage was a welcome addition. There was no air conditioning but bring your own fans and you will be fine. The only negative was that the couches were too low to the ground and the backs were short which made for poor back support. They were great for additional sleeping space though. We would definitely come back as the home, lake and nearby shops were all welcoming and beautiful. The kids were impressed by all the deer we saw in town just walking past people and grazing on lawns. Great vacation.

Beautiful spot for a large family

A beautiful spot on a lovely lake, with eagles and loons as companions. Old Forge is nearby for when you crave more bustle, but our family spent most of our time swimming, boating and fishing. and cooking great meals for eating together in the large dining area.The fishing was excellent. We caught a considerable number of good sized bass. Our family loved Shangri La.

Outdated house

The scenery was very nice but the house was lacking from old furniture and uncomfortable old beds. The refrigerator was also very old and in need of updating. The so called gourmet kitchen which does not offer much counterspace and a oven that that needs the boiler to be on to heat up the oven before use of oven along with poor utensils and 1 cooking pan. I wouldn't recommend swimming on the small sandbeach two of the kids had to have leeches removed from there body after swimming "twice" by the third day we couldn't allow them to go swimming anymore this is an OK place if you plan to do a lot of sightseeing and not spend much time at the house be careful of the owner he over sells a lot and under delivers we also had an issue with bogus charges after the vacation was over a way that the owner could try to get more money

Great for a big family

Our family of 11 spent a lovely week at this property. There was ample room for us all (no more sleeping bags on the floor!), the little kids enjoyed the sandy beach, there were nearby hikes to be had, and the dining and living rooms were large enough to accommodate everyone. The patio was a great place for cocktails before dinner - a little buggy, but to be fair, we never hooked up the bug-zapper. The phone service was a welcome touch since there is no cell or Internet available. Altogether a delightful week.

Wonderful winter retreat!

Shangri-La is a very special place indeed. Family and friends of all ages are easily accommodated; it's comfortable and well equipped; we enjoyed the stunning view and ideal location. The home is beautifully restored and preserved -- even high winds and frigid temperatures did not penetrate our coziness and warmth. Highly recommended!

Wonderful winter retreat!

Shangri-La is a very special place indeed. Plenty of room for family and friends of all ages; stunning view; well equipped; and perfect location. The home has been so well restored that even high winds and frigid cold did not penetrate our coziness. We all had a most delightful time.
