Tranquil Zen House On An Enchanted Hilltop

Enjoy beautiful sunrises, sunsets and starry nights in our peaceful, cozy, cottage getaway only 25 minutes from Meow Wolf and the historic Santa Fe Plaza. Zen House has a large, private, fenced in yard with beautiful views, a fire pit and propane barbeque. There is one bedroom with a King Bed and Sleeping Couch, kitchen, closet and bathroom. No separate living room.

The house is up 1.3 miles of dirt road. Just far enough to feel like you are getting away from it all but close enough to all the wonders that Santa Fe has to offer. Harry’s Road House, Cafe Fina and the Jambo Bobcat Bite, three favorite restaurants are 15 minutes away. It is 20 minutes to Museum Hill, 30 minutes to galleries theaters and grocery stores.

Owned by Santa Fe Tree House Camp & Wilderness Preserve, you will have access to 156 acres of land bordering the Santa Fe National Forest and can enjoy a variety of hikes right out your door. The camp offers family camps, nature education, archery, tomahawk throwing, a mobile climbing wall, yoga, qigong, star talks, sustainability & recycling education and more.

Leashed dogs are welcome with a $10 per night fee for up to 3 dogs.

This is a NON-SMOKING site and facility.

Internet is available for your use. There is no Cable or TV service but you can stream through the wifi on the bedroom monitor with your computer or tablet.

My friend and I enjoyed our 5 day stay. It's so peaceful and remote, and worth the little extra time to drive into town, even daily. Communication was excellent.

I liked the location as it was very close to great hiking options but do know it is at the end of a dirt road. Nice outdoor seating area with gas grill. Note there is no separate living room, just the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.

We stayed here 5 nights while in Santa Fe for opera, gravel biking, and birding. We really enjoyed our stay here, we especially appreciated watching the birds at the feeders and dining in the back yard while watching the sun set. Nice trails nearby for hiking. Slept great every night on the comfy bed. Low key quiet retreat for folks who enjoy simplicity. Hosts Ciana and Brad were super nice. Would stay here again if we return to Santa Fe.

The host, Ciana, was incredibly responsive and kind. Checked in frequently to be sure all was well. The zen house is a special place among the piñons and junipers - we just found it so peaceful. There are hiking trails straight out the door to take us into the mountains. We will definitely be back!

Directions to Zen House were accurate and easy to follow. Check-in and check-out process was quick and easy. Ciana was excellent at communicating and a terrific host. Kitchen and bathroom were well appointed with everything that we needed. The property evoked a sense of seclusion, serenity, and felt safe.

Mountain Paradise

Check in was quick and easy. The property is stunning. Fenced all around with plenty of room for our dog, Nava. Full kitchen stocked with extras. Grill outside with best view in New Mexico. Had many outdoor areas for relaxing, a fire pit, table, chairs with umbrella, front door bench to soak in all the mountain air and wonder. We took a axe/ spear throwing class taught by Brad. Awesome experience! Ciana was there to answer any questions and provide information about the camp and surrounding area. The property backs up against Santa Fe National Forest and you had many options for days hikes. The entire 155 acres is naturally landscaped with native plants. It is impeccably clean and well maintained. This should be on everyone’s bucket list. Truly a National Treasure that Ciana and Brad have nurtured into a lifetime experience. Ps. The rainbows are magnificent!

Very welcoming, cozy cabinet that was stocked with coffee and cooking tools. We chose this for the more remote experience. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and there was no stargazing to be had. I enjoyed the hike but it was more difficult than I thought. I suppose this is the big reason for the liability waiver that is asked for signing after you book a stay. The garbage and recycling rules are a bit much—three or four different options, one is bones and grease and another us no bones and grease for instance. WiFi is great since reception is minimal otherwise. Odd that the TV in the bedroom doesn’t connect to the WiFi directly. So no Netflix for instance. I did not bring a monitor since I wanted to get away from work. There is a DVD player but no DVDs provided. The shower water pressure could have been better. There is a laminate floor that is partly water damaged by the toilet. The toilet could have been cleaned better under the rim. The vent fan doesn’t work. Overall a good experience but would choose something else nicer for the price charged. Very quiet area with the camp nearby.

Hi Dan: I’m glad you found your stay quiet and an overall good experience and sorry it was raining and you didn’t get to experience our amazing star-filled skies and the view of the Milky Way! Sustainability is a big part of what our non-profit teaches, thus the Trash, Recycle and Compost Bin’s with details of what goes in each. The waiver is for anyone who comes on the property whether they hike or not. Had I realized that the guests before you had removed the laminated information sheet from the site, I would have printed up another form for the house. That sheet talks about the various hikes on the property, to request DVD’s, the door code etc. Sorry you didn’t have all that information. We love our delicious well water, but we don’t love the orange stains the minerals leave in our sinks and toilets and that clog up our shower heads. Time for another vinegar rinse I guess. Thanks for letting us know about the bathroom fan, it worked last time we checked. As we always say, and I told you when you arrived, we live right next door and to please let us know if you need anything to make your stay better. Your Zen House Cottage stay helps support our Wilderness Preserve! Thank you!
