First, the location just can't be beat. It's an easy walk to the beach and an easy walk to downtown. We've been coming to Bethany for years and this was the first time we've stayed on the Bethany Canal. That was much cooler than I thought it would be! We rented paddleboards and a kayak and our teens could easily take them out to the Salt Pond without supervision.
There is also a lot of deck space, which was really really nice.
The house itself is, as others have described it, dated. The toaster, for example, only works if you hold down a piece of it while the bread toasts. Some other things are just showing their age. But it's totally functional for a week at the beach.
The one seriously negative note -- we booked through VRBO, but the property is managed by a separate management company. I found our initial interactions with them really off putting. I was told I had to pay a balance immediately and pay an additional service fee by paying by credit card. I found them not terribly responsive and rude. And I was frustrated by the surprise fee.
But being on that canal was really fantastic!
