There’s nothing more Canadian than staying in a beautiful cabin in Beaver Mines, Alberta. This quaint village of some 100 people is located in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in “cowboy country”, with ranches dotting the rolling hills and cowboy hats aplenty. The charming town also features a lovely local bakery, perfect for fresh morning treats or a relaxing afternoon coffee. While some guests seek peace and seclusion, others may crave a bit of adventure, and Beaver Mines offers both. Just a 15-minute drive away, Castle Mountain Provincial Park and Ski Resort delivers incredible powder and short lift lines, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. A bit farther, only 50 minutes from the cabin, is Waterton Lakes National Park, one of our favourite destinations, featuring a stunning lake framed by iconic mountain peaks, along with a charming nearby town full of excellent dining options. To the north of Beaver Mines, you’ll find the winding Oldman River, a renowned spot for world-class fly fishing, summertime river rafting, and scenic riverside exploration. For those eager to explore beyond the well-trodden paths, we provide some books with hidden hiking trails and unique local gems. For our European guests, reaching the cabin is easy. Most international visitors fly into Calgary, where rental cars are readily available. Before you leave the city, consider renting outdoor gear – you’ll find plenty of options. From there, take the scenic drive south along Highway 22 (The Cowboy Trail) to Highway 3 (Crowsnest Highway), which hugs the eastern slopes of the Rockies. Inside the cabin, pine wood lines the walls, creating a warm, rustic atmosphere. The cabin features a beautiful lofted master bedroom with a cozy sitting area and has a welcoming, comfortable vibe that makes it easy to settle in and stay awhile. On rainy days, relax with some music or a movie. Outdoors, enjoy evenings around the fire pit or grill up a meal on the BBQ. All beds are outfitted with down duvets and crisp white linens for a restful night’s sleep. For added convenience and peace of mind, our caretakers live in a separate suite below the main house. Having lived in Calgary, we deeply appreciate all that Alberta has to offer. Though our family now lives in Switzerland, we’re happy to share our vacation home with others, everyone is welcome!
