The host was responsive and accomodating. The views (and sunsets) are incredible. The house is large with lots to do - games, books, pool table., hot tub. The sauna wasn't working on our trip. The hot tub was nice at sunset and there were several deer.
A few things would make for a better experience. No soap in the bathrooms. We walked in after a long drive and there was no soap to wash hands. We didn't expect to have to bring that. I used my shampoo. Also, more kitchen supplies would be great - foil, Ziploc bags, a few Tide pods would be good.
When we went it was extremely windy - think like a wind tunnel sitting up on the hill. Couldn't sleep and had to go to the bottom level.
The house is lovely in terms of the view, quality windows, attractive beams, etc., but it is quite musty and they have plug-ins to cover the smell. Think like visiting Grandpa's house for the weekend. My allergies bothered me. Also, the furnishings are old fashioned, but I guess it is a rental.
If you get scared easily, don't go. The former owner's grave is on the property and the house is a tribute to his memory - lots of mementos everywhere. That combined with high winds, lots of noises, woke me up at 2:30 a.m. (granted I have been reading a lot of Stephen King lol).
We visited in the fall and enjoyed all of the color, a trip to Burlington, and the Champlain Islands. It's a very rural area (unpaved road to get there), but we liked that. Overall, 4 stars.
