Off-grid creekside treehouse w/fire-pit, hammock
Sleep by the creek, comfy cozy in our 10×12’ natural cedar, off-grid screened gazebo with a tin roof.
Because this treehouse is an unusual stay, please be sure you read the whole description. This is not a typical building - it's a treehouse on a deck (no tree-climbing needed). The beds are cots (not twin - there was no option for cots) - with 2" memory foam toppers (very comfy). The bathroom is a port-a-potty.
What's it Like?
There’s a path and hand-dug stone-covered steps down from the pasture to the deck, lit by solar lights. Swoosh back the netting door/curtain, take your shoes off, and feel the “ahhhh” start to wash over you.
Relax in the hammock under the trees, sit with your feet in the cool creek by the fire pit, or let it sing you to sleep on 2" memory foam cots with or without the mosquito netting.
The Space
This is an off-grid rustic glamping treehouse feet away from the creek. Because of the breeze and moving water, we typically are not bothered by insects - but the roll-down bamboo shades, screen curtains, and mosquito netting are there to help (and look pretty!). The metal roof extends about 6" past the structure to help you stay dry if it rains - the tree canopy helps, too.
We have a mesh network to provide wifi. The barn has Starlink and our mesh network extends coverage pretty well for us (we're on AT&T) - but definitely not guaranteed. (A family member on Verizon can't get a signal. Not sure about other carriers.)
There's a port-a-potty with hand sanitizer a short walk from the treehouse. No shower, no flush toilets. No refrigerator - but we do have a cooler you can use.
It's MOSTLY quiet. However, we're in a rural area and there are farm vehicles, tractors, trucks, and the occasional noisy car that may interrupt the quiet for a moment. Also, there are neighbors across the street who sometimes have conversations we can hear because of the echo through the hollow. Across the creek from the treehouse, there's a road about 30' away (about 8' higher than ground level). As the season progresses, the trees and other greenery gets thicker and thicker, adding more privacy. It would be really hard for anyone in a vehicle on the road to even see the treehouse. All in all, quiet and private - we just want to paint a realistic picture for you!
The hammock has a weight limit of 450 pounds.
There's a picnic table that's 4 feet long, a charcoal grill and basic grill tools, a fire pit with a metal grate where you can heat water for coffee in the kettle. There's a French press and we provide coffee, some plain creamer, mugs, 2 wine glasses, and dining utensils.
We wade in the creek and do a little fishing. The fish are tiny - catch and release - a short pole is recommended rather than trying to cast (and spend half your time getting untangled!). There is a family of otters downstream - you may or may not get to see them. Please do NOT try to pet, feed, or otherwise disturb them. They were here first.
There may be deer or wild turkeys in the pasture during your stay. You may hear coyotes at night, but they are likely pretty far away (their sound carries through the hollow).
Obviously, there may be snakes, spiders, and bugs! You're sleeping in an outdoor structure.
We're on 30 acres and you're welcome to roam it all - except the barn. There's the creek, the pasture, and then the bulk of the property is wooded hills. In the hills, the property line is marked by barbed wire - please respect the neighbors' property and do not go past the barbed wire.
There's a fire pit by the creek. We'll provide a bit of firewood, but you're free to gather more - it's everywhere! We also have a couple of s'mores roasting sticks you can use. Fires ONLY in the fire pit - not in the pasture. You must fully extinguish your fire before going to bed (we provide a bucket so you can douse it with water from the creek).
This property is NOT very well suited to kids. It's intended for hosting two responsible adults only.
Your pets are welcome, but must be on leash at all times. We have four dogs, two cats, and 20+ chickens. Our dogs will be contained or leashed during your visit. The chickens are in their coop. One cat roams the property. We want your stay to be good for your pet, too, so leashing is a must.
Parking is in the pasture - but where exactly depends on whether you have 4-wheel drive and whether the ground is dry. If it's dry or you have 4WD, you will be able to drive up to right by the treehouse. If it's been raining or you do not have 4WD, you'll want to park in the woodchip area by the entrance to the property. We have a gorilla wagon and a UTV and can help with your luggage in that case.
Quiet hours from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
If you have ANY questions, please send a message. Having stayed at many Airbnbs, we know how important it is to know as much about a property as possible before booking.
Our goal is for you to have a relaxing, refreshing stay that gives your soul some breathing room, away from all the pressures and constant buzzing of technology.
We're happy to share this off-grid haven with you.
