We had a lovely stay in this well-equipped gite and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the countryside as well as the nearby golden beaches and little towns. The gite is positioned up a little dirt track surrounded by farmland with a little lake close by where a heron and and some otters live. We saw the heron on our first day, but had to be a little more patient to see the sleek otters swimming around, they were amazing though.
The Gite is well equipped with almost everything you can think of. It even has BBC, DVDs to watch, games to play and a games console for kids. The kitchen is large with an island table, and had everything apart from sharp knives (the knives they have are pretty blunt). We enjoyed self catering, and appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine. The bedrooms are a decent size and both double beds are very comfortable. There is enough storage space, with a lovely, large wardrobe in the main bedroom. The single beds weren't quite as comfortable, but the room was nice.
The Wi-Fi works fine if you follow their instructions and remember to charge it. The garden is pretty and there is a good children's play area which I'm sure kids would enjoy. We enjoyed relaxing in the garden reading books and made use of the decent size washing line to dry all our clothes.
We appreciated having a cool box and ice packs to use and there were even body boards available if you felt so inclined. Our favourite beach was at Faut sur mer as it is away from the crowds and has a wood that you walk through to get to it which is lovely to retreat to when you want some shade. Everyone sits there to have lunch!
We took our bikes and enjoyed cycling around the area. We discovered you have to go to individual local tourist offices to get routes for circle rides in the area (there is one main book then individual leaflets) . We found some great rides starting from Avrille, several which were numbered individually and one which was called Boucle Megaliths. All of these were perfectly signposted and very easy to follow. In contrast, the map we had with circle routes from the tourist office in Moutiers les Mauxfaits were almost impossible to follow. The signs would appear for a while and then completely vanish leaving you quite frustrated and irritated! Of course there are also long trail routes along the coast which are also well signposted, so you can never run out of cycle paths to explore.
A lovely gite and a wonderful place to stay, we would well recommend it.
