What is the “Convent”
While having a career as chaplain, I opened my large home to traveling professionals from across the country. I have met so many fine people, many of whom are good friends today. When I retired a few months ago, I decided to purchase the small convent just across the street from my residence, as way of adding to my available spaces for traveling professionals. Located beside the local St. Anne’s Catholic Church, “The Convent” has been a much-loved site for the Dexter community as the "sisters" not only taught school to many residents in town but also opened their home to the community providing meals and social events.

Over the years, I have learned that one of the challenges for travelers is social connection while away from family. With this thought I mind, I set out to create individual apartments for total privacy, while creating opportunity for shared space. The plan has created three individual private apartments (living room, bedroom and private bath), while offering several shared spaces (well-equipped full kitchen, dining room, sun porch). My guests have the opportunity to decide if they wish to be social or totally to themselves. While “The Convent” has been operating for just a few months, the reviews are stellar.

It is my hope that with our well-appointed private spaces along with all the conveniences of a large kitchen, dining room, and wrap around porch, high speed internet, cable television and laundry “The Convent” will be a oasis of comfort and relaxation.
