Great Property

We traveled with three generations of our family, eight people ages 14 to 82, and a small dog.The house was very spacious and had more than enough room for everyone to spread out and relax. The pond and grounds were beautiful.It was incredibly hot and humid during our stay but the house remained cool and comfortable, even the upstairs bedrooms. Due to the heat, we spent most of our time at the house instead of the lake and the deck was fantastic, the mature trees provide lots of shade. We did take a 5 minute walk down the road to a farm stand in the mornings and for ice cream in the evenings, both were wonderful.The kitchen and decks are very well equipped, everything you need for cooking and grilling is there. The owners are very accommodating and provide a great information packet about the property for check in.We will definitely be back, we are considering booking a week at Thanksgiving or Christmas to spend the holidays as a family. Overall a fantastic rental!

Family Weekend

Spent a beautiful weekend at the property for a family summer weekend we do every year. This property was exceptionally beautiful and exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend staying at this property!

Charming and warmth in a spacious home

Great stay. The house has a ton of charm and warmth. It was a very spacious place that was a nice place to relax. One thing that we found fantastic was that it was filled with the little extras that you need when away from home but not normally there. There were extras such a zip loc bags, scissors, extra garbage bags, etc. I know that sounds like a little thing, but these are not normal in a lot of VRBOs and this was so nice to have.

Great location

The property is beautiful. A wonderful place to relax after a busy day taking in all the fun things to do around the area. The boat house, deck and fire pit were a great way to end the days. Would highly recommend this place. A winery across the street and The Farmers Daughter ice cream store within walking distance is a win-win way to enjoy the evening!

Great Stay in Westfield

We really enjoyed our time at the Westfield House. The house was large enough that our family of 10 had room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. Bob was a great host, very knowledgeable about the area and offered us great ideas of fun things to do and see.

Spacious and well appointed

Beautiful and historic home, lovely property with a pond and boat house. Perfect place to play croquet in the yard and dine outdoors on deck. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal for a group with plenty of seating. Perfect location for getting to beaches to look for sea glass or visiting wineries. Loved crossing the street to go to Johnson’s Winery.

Westfield Gem

We had a great stay at this property, very clean and a lot of history to this place. Has a Frank Lloyd Wright feel with a lot of art and antiques. Kitchen is modern and awesome. One wish would be for n more comfortable furniture in the sitting/living room (and maybe a large TV) but we made do in the ample bedrooms. Loved the bar area. We hope to be back!

Beautiful retreat

We enjoyed our stay at the Westfield. The property and home are beautiful. The kitchen was stocked with all needed items. Beds were comfortable. Our stay was too short and we are looking forward to returning in the future. I highly recommend this house and with its close proximity to wineries it would be a great destination for a girls trip

Beautiful home and property

Really neat place to stay! The outside spaces were beautiful and relaxing and the kids enjoyed boat rides on the pond. The home was clean and kitchen and bathrooms were well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We also enjoyed the exquisite artwork though out the house.

A great family vacation spot

This is the second year we stayed here because we love everything about the house and location. The bedroom situation is perfect for the 5 adults and 2 children. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook. We spent a lot off time near the pond and waterfalls. Many places to read or play games with the kids.A great spot.

Relaxing and picturesque stay in NY wine country

Our group included adults, a teen, and a pair of five year olds and everyone had a great time at this house! The location is amazing - short drive to hiking, Chautauqua, Bemus Point, Midway State Park. You can walk across the street to Johnson Estate Winery! The house itself is very charming and we had so much fun walking the crop circle, using the boat house hammocks, playing in the grass, and having campfires and s’mores!! We highly recommend this house for all ages. The hosts are very responsive and friendly!

Beautiful Form Over Function

Thoughtful hosts even brought a roasting pan for a Thanksgiving turkey. Well equipped and supplied kitchen. Very spacious house. Extensive grounds are beautifully developed but less usable in the cold off season Beautiful architecture and appropriately furnished, but form was at the expense of comfort. Lots of mission oak furniture which looks great, but becomes uncomfortable to sit in for long. There are televisions in every bedroom, but none in the public rooms. Period light fixtures made for a very dark house a problem for visually impaired. Bedrooms need mirrors.

Visiting “home” for a family wedding!

Our family thanks you for a very welcoming visit into your home! Immediately we all found our comfortable bedrooms, and started right in making dinner together. The kitchen was extremely well appointed! We appreciated that we didn’t need to go out and purchase several things including spices! Our granddaughters loved the fruit trees, grapevines, and the paddleboat! The adults enjoyed our morning, coffee sitting in the sunshine next to the pond, very peaceful and beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of your house, including the artwork that was everywhere! We would love to return to your home the next time we are in Chautauqua County. A perfect choice for a relaxing vacation

I recently stayed at this home with my wife and kids and four other family members. We were in need of a relaxing week away from the city and this property gave us just that! There is so much to explore and experience on the property (kids loved running the maze and going on the pond) and my dog had the best week of his life running around exploring. There are several options nearby for food and entertainment, but at a nice slow pace. We are not big wine drinkers, but had fun learning about the region and trying several local wines. The owners were great to work with and were very responsive when asking one-off questions. I would highly recommend visiting the area and staying at this property. The home is very cozy, spacious, full of history and interesting tidbits and the kitchen was amazing! We cooked most of our meals at home because of it.

A Hidden Gem

Our family vacation in Westfield was very special because of this amazing property! The house is beautifully decorated and maintained and exceeded our expectations. The beds were so comfortable and we enjoyed the well stocked kitchen. We had fun outside peddling the boat on the pond and walking through the maze as well as a roaring fire in the fire pit. The beach at the marina provided hours of fun for the kids! We really enjoyed meeting new friends at local businesses nearby. We would love to return for another visit and make more memories!

Stunning home and amazing hospitality

This was our first VRBO experience and I can't imagine this was anything but the gold standard. Not only was the home gorgeous, and exactly as pictured, but also it was so comfortable. The beds were so comfortable, and every home amenity was provided and then some! Bob and Sheila were great communicators , and we had wonderful exchanges about things to do in the area during our stay. They answered all our questions before we got there and we even arrived to a treat basket and full stocked beverage bar. The modern kitchens and bathrooms were luxurious for us. The grounds were postcard perfect and we enjoyed spending time here nestled in nature. What a great first experience- it would be tough to beat.

Westfield House - Perfect place for a great family vacation

Beautiful, spacious house and property. House was well stocked with linens, bath and kitchen supplies, even a large assortment of games for the family. Location was awesome with close proximity to lakes Erie and Chautauqua, the quaint village of Westfield and an easy walk to a brewery, winery, ice cream and farm stands. But with an abundance of activities right on the grounds, we spent most of our week peddle boating, walking the vineyards and crop circle, hanging out on the lovely deck or front porch, or sitting by the fire pit at night. We loved every minute of our stay!

It’s like a Norman Rockwell painting! A very unique property and house.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is very tastefully done and convenient to area wineries as well as Chautauqua. Downtown Westfield is very charming and The Parkview restaurant is excellent.

Westfield sibling getaway

We loved the entire experience, from the grounds to the special house. The furnishings and decor were excellent, and there was no lack of provisions for our every need.

Central location

Central hub for many locations, such as Niagara Falls, Lake Erie, Chautauqua Lake. Best restaurant in Westfield is Calarcos Italian. Another good restaurant is Pine Junction in Sherman. Must visit Dunkirk lighthouse!

Sheila and Bob are two retired advertising/marketing professionals who escaped the congestion and stresses of the City to experience the comforts of country living on the shores of Lake Erie Wine Country.

The Westfield House" is just two hours north of their current Pittsburgh residence but, it is worlds away from the everyday stressors of city living.

After your visit you will never want to leave!

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT CONNECTION...
The Westfield House (Thonawada Prairie Bungalow) is a century old Prairie Bungalow farm house that was built by O.S. Lang for Buffalo Banker Edgar Taylor and his wife Margaret. In 1909 O. S. Lang had just finished Collaborating with Frank Lloyd Wright on the building of several notable Buffalo N.Y. residences including... the highly acclaimed, Darwin Martin House, The Gardeners Cottage, The Davidson House, and the Heath House when he accepted the offer from Westfield New York residents Charles Welch (juice & Jellies) and Edger Taylor, to move to Western New York to design and build their private residences including "The Chedwel Compound" for Welch and "The Thonawada Bungalow" for Taylor...

The plans were drawn-up by O.S. Lang in a sleek Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Bungalow style with a low pitch roof and a ribbon of 38 windows surrounding the first floor's cedar shake covered exterior.

As time and fortunes past, Thonawada Bungalow fell into disrepair and was eventually rescued in 2007 by Bob & Sheila who decided not to remodel the home, but rather, restore it back to its original intended country elegance....The House and seven acres of vineyards and artfully landscaped grounds and water features are now available, year round for you and your family and friends to enjoy for a couple days, weeks, or even a month.

Visitors to The Westfield House" are invited to walk the scenic paths around Turtle Pond, through the two waterfalls, and relax along the way at the stone Patio, above the falls, with a glass of regional wine then hang-out in the hammocks at the Pond House.

After your short rest, continue through the century old vineyard once owned by the Mogen David Wine Company (Today one of the largest wine producers in the world)...Along your way, you will also pass through our fledgling orchard. Combined, you will pick sweet Concord Grapes, apples, pears, cherries, plums, peaches, crab apples, Hickory Nuts, and Butter Nuts… ENJOY Life in the Slow Lane!

After consuming your fill of fresh fruit and nuts, you will venture into our Walking Circles, the largest of which takes you nowhere after a fifteen minute walk from the outer ring and into the center... If you still have some energy left over, we find that many guests pick-up the pace and retrace their steps out of the circle at a more lively pace...I believe the record is about 1 minute to the finish line and the beginning of a new path through Harry's Grove....Named after the woodsman who groomed all of the trees and shrubs on the property a decade ago)
