Fishermen love the St. Mary's river. One of our guests caught a rainbow trout that was 16 inches long. I am told that larger fish have been caught up stream closer to the dam. Unfortunately, the river floods about every 10 years and ruins the fishing so no promises on whether or not you'll catch a fish. It's a catch and release river and there is a fishing season so check the regulations before you come. Regulations can be found through links at our personal website.
During the spring you will often find geese and swallows nesting on the ledges and walls of the cliffs. We also see pelicans on the river and deer travel through the property about once a week. During the last two years a bald eagle has visited us almost every day. The large rodent that lives on the property is not a gopher. The proper name is Hoary marmot.
If mountains are your thing, you will love Waterton National Park. It is less than an hour away and is absolutely beautiful.
