I can't say enough about this property, it was just wonderful! My family and I have been vacationing on Cape Cod for the past 5 years, but this was our first foray to the Truro/Wellfleet area. We carefully researched what was available, and were immediately taken by this house. What we saw when we arrived was even more beautiful than we hoped for.
The setting is quietly spectacular, surrounded by forest on a knoll, but with sufficient clearing to bathe the house in sunlight. The house itself is beautiful, and the layout was perfect for my wife and I and our two children (ages 9 and 6). Preparing meals was a pleasure, and we frequently opted to eat outside on the comfortable porch. The place was spotless, and the master bathroom upstairs was plenty large enough to accomodate us (there's also a half-bath on the ground floor). While it wasn't necessary for our kids, families with very young children will be happy to know that the railings on the upstairs (inside) balcony are supplemented by heavy-duty (and unobtrusive) plexiglass to make sure small people don't slip through in their explorations!
There was plenty of comfortable space inside for us to spread out and for the kids to play (or watch, when we let them)...but the real fun was getting out! The house is at the southern edge of Truro, and about a mile or so from the bay. We spent most of our beach days (meaning, most of our days) at Ryder Beach, 5 minutes by car (parking available with your Truro beach sticker) or a 20 minute walk through the woods and marshes. What a beautiful beach! No crowds, pristine sand for miles, generally protected from high wind and surf, a view along the arc of the Cape up to Provincetown; just a great place to spend the day.
Wellfeet center is about a 10 minute drive. It's become our favorite town on the Cape, really low-key and charming. We enjoyed eating at Mac's by the harbor, and then dancing on the big pier on Wednesday nights. There were plenty of other activities provided by Wellfleet's parks and rec department...lots of fun! And the sunsets are just stunning. There are other great restaurants and shops, galleries, biking on the CCRT (from the Wellfleet terminus), so plenty to keep us occupied.
Of course, there were so many places to explore we can't mention them all: Truro, P-town...
Finally, kudos to the owner, who was just great, very helpful and easy to reach; he made the whole process easy! I couldn't recommend this place more highly.
