“A Declaration of Love for Vienna’s Local Mountains: Rax, Schneeberg, and the Semmering,” read the headline in the Wiener Kurier describing this breathtaking landscape.
Our stylish vacation home is located in the hiking village and health resort of Puchberg am Schneeberg, at an elevation of approximately 600 meters above sea level.
It features three bedrooms (sleeps 1–6 people)—two with double beds and one with two single beds—and a 30-square-meter sun terrace with a wonderful view of the Schneeberg. A living and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, and two bathrooms make the house a place of enjoyment and relaxation. All rooms are cozy and furnished with attention to detail. The house has a total area of 130 square meters.
Countless easy hiking trails and high-mountain tours start right at the front door, as does Austria’s longest cog railway—in operation since the 19th century—which still takes you to the summit today on special trips with steam locomotives.
Quaint mountain huts invite you to linger, and foodies will delight in excellent Austrian cuisine at local inns, award-winning restaurants, or at a Heuriger in the famous wine village of Gumpoldskirchen.
Supermarkets, bakeries, a pharmacy, an outdoor pool, butchers, and doctors are all located in the immediate vicinity. You can also travel by train to Puchberg; Vienna International Airport is only an hour away, and rental cars are available starting at approximately €180 per week if booked in advance.
Families with children and recreational athletes will find plenty to enjoy, including mountaineering, mountain biking, mountain carts, rock climbing, sailing, skiing, ski lessons, hang gliding, or a visit to Puchis Kinderland. With the Lower Austria Card for about €80/€40, you get free admission to 300 attractions worth €2,700—valid for the entire season!
We welcome inquiries from pleasant, friendly, and reliable people seeking relaxation. We love to party too, but this isn’t the right place for that.

Many notable figures have spoken about this place: Emperor Franz Josef spent a great deal of time here hunting and with his family. Sigmund Freud once hiked along the Thörlweg on the Rax. Arthur Schnitzler fell in love with the landlady Olga Waissnix at the Thalhof, and Stefan Zweig captured the fin-de-siècle atmosphere of the imperial era at the Grandhotel Panhans on the Semmering in his novel *Brennendes Geheimnis* (Burning Secret). Rudolf Steiner created memories of his childhood in this beautiful region. Marvel at the Semmering Railway, Europe’s first mountain railway dating from 1854 and an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the book “K.u.K. Place of Longing: Schneeberg—Reichenau, Puchberg, Payerbach,” Puchberg is hailed at the turn of the century as “Austria’s Chamonix,” and Reichenau/Payerbach “rose to become one of the monarchy’s most exclusive summer resorts.” Since the monarchy’s collapse, enthusiasts of “lost places” have continued to discover many interesting sites in the area to this day. We’re happy to provide you with plenty of valuable insider tips!
