Guest Safety & Property Disclosures:
Exterior Video Surveillance: For your safety and the security of the property, there are 7 active security cameras located entirely on the exterior of the home. These monitor exterior perimeter walls and public access points only. There are absolutely no cameras located inside the home or facing private outdoor relaxation spaces. Smart Noise Monitoring: This home is equipped with a smart noise-monitoring device (Minut) located in the living room area. Please note that this device does not record audio, video, or private conversations; it strictly measures decibel levels to monitor for sustained excessive noise and ensure a peaceful environment for our neighbors.
Great location and loved the historic property. (Actually loved all the historic properties in Detroit.) Host was gracious and available. Apartment was clean and comfortable.

I've never been so uncomfortable at a rental. There's a difference between having cameras and sensing/monitors in the rental, and watching every step your tenant makes. This man is watching you and paying attention to what you're doing during the entire stay. It's truly unsettling and it ruined our stay entirely. It started the first night with us assuming that a Schlage lock on the outside of the building would have auto lock. He texted me threatening to change the lock code and kick us out. And every day it was another thing with another threat. We had some friends come over around 6pm the second day hoping to have some pizza before our event that night, and he showed up and kicked everyone out (with another threat to kick us out). I get that there's rules so we left, but we are all 30's adults - many of which are married with children (kids not present) and property of our own. Don't stay here unless you are comfortable with being watched constantly.

This review warrants a factual response for prospective guests:
Cameras: exterior-only and disclosed in the listing. There is no interior monitoring of any kind. The characterization of being “watched” inside the unit is false.
The exterior door: this guest was instructed at check-in to lock the building’s exterior door on entry and exit. He repeatedly left it unlocked, and other guests in the building reported it. The message he received was rule enforcement to protect the safety of every paying guest on the property, not a threat.
Occupancy: the noise monitoring system registered a disturbance, and the unit contained approximately 20 people in a space with a posted occupancy of 4. Guests are always welcome to have a few friends over respectfully. A gathering of that size is not that. Phone contact was attempted first and went unanswered, after which a 50-mile drive to the property was required to address the situation in person.
Noise: the disturbance continued until approximately 5 AM, keeping other paying guests in the building awake. The guest was informed that the police would be called if it did not stop. That was a direct response to documented complaints from other guests in the building.
Vrbo was notified with supporting documentation of the rule violations, and a specific request was made that the reservation not be cancelled so the stay could be completed.
Notably, this review does not contain a single complaint about the property itself — not the unit, the cleanliness, the amenities, or the location. Every issue raised concerns the enforcement of house rules the guest agreed to at booking. The safety and peaceful stay of every guest in this building is non-negotiable, and that standard will not change.
