Why travel far when a vacation opportunity is right on your doorstep? With rising travel costs, the climate debate, and growing uncertainty at some traditional long-haul destinations, the vacation trends of “self-directed, individual travel” and “returning to nature at home” are becoming increasingly popular. What activities are you planning for this coming summer? Here, in a two-story bungalow in the Alter Bay of the “Hohenwarte Reservoir”—a beautiful landscape on the upper Saale River near Saalfeld—I’m offering a ground-floor vacation rental for up to 2 people. The upstairs unit has been fully booked for years.
The ground-floor apartment features 1 kitchen-living room, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, and a hallway with a closet. It also includes a spacious, separate outdoor area with a parking spot, two covered seating areas, and a beautiful view of the fjord-like reservoir landscape.
The distance to the water is approximately 200 m. In the bay, you’ll find the Jigger Bar and the Hotel Saalestrand, both offering dining options, as well as the Saalthal-Alter campground with a snack bar, rental stations for water sports equipment, and a passenger ferry dock.
In addition to a fishing license, anglers also need a local fishing permit (Anglererlaubnisschein), which can be purchased, for example, at the Hotel Saalestrand.
Directions: Drive to the water sports center, then turn left onto the unpaved path (stream) and take the second street (also along the stream) on the right. After about 100 m, you’ll see Bungalow No. 80 on the left.
