This is where London’s story began. The City of London—often referred to as “The Square Mile”—was established by the Romans in 50 AD and remains one of the most historically significant areas in the capital. Though compact in size, it holds a vast concentration of history, culture, and commerce within its borders.
Today, it’s a dynamic blend of the old and the new. Ancient alleyways and medieval churches sit side-by-side with gleaming skyscrapers that house major financial institutions. But don’t be fooled into thinking it’s all business—this area has a vibrant social scene too. You'll find cozy pubs tucked into historic corners, modern bars on rooftops, independent art galleries, world-class restaurants, and intimate theatres all waiting to be explored.
Getting around
Excellent public transport links make it easy to explore London and beyond:
• Mansion House Station – Just moments away, with access to the Circle and District lines.
• Bank Station (Exit 9) – A major interchange offering access to the Central, Northern, Waterloo & City lines, as well as the DLR.
• St. Paul’s Station – Close by and connected via the Central Line, ideal for reaching Oxford Street or further west quickly.
