Do you love something special and out of the ordinary for your relaxing vacation on Lake Constance? You may have found the right place. With “Wohnen im Denkmal,” we offer a unique vacation rental in our newly renovated half-timbered house dating back to 1706—featuring a romantic courtyard seating area and a spacious natural garden, and, to top it off, located near the lake (a 2-minute bike ride).
Our 70-square-meter 2.5-room apartment, “Nostalgica,” is located in the “Hohen Hirschen,” a former 18th-century bailiwick, surrounded by a large natural garden and an idyllic courtyard. The imposing half-timbered house was lovingly renovated from 2019 to 2022 in collaboration with the Baden-Württemberg State Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and is situated in a quiet area in the former old village center of the lakeside community of Bodman-Ludwigshafen. The location offers an ideal starting point for varied explorations around Lake Überlingen, the northwestern, still very unspoiled basin of Lake Constance.
The 2.5-room vacation apartment “Nostalgica”:
The client’s elaborate renovation concept—he is an archaeologist and historian by training —was to, in the spirit of “living in a historic monument,” clad modern building systems in a nostalgic style and decorate them with authentic antiques from days gone by, in order to create a unique, warm living atmosphere with beautiful natural colors and materials for a pleasant, healthy living environment. The result is a special “oasis of well-being” (as described by our first guests), featuring a courtyard seating area and a beautiful natural garden, perfect for a relaxing stay on Lake Constance. Warm colors and a particularly healthy living environment thanks to natural building materials await you—but no dishwasher and no mind-numbing TV, neither of which is needed in this place of beautiful impressions and natural simplicity.
Let the photos speak for themselves: A bathroom with an original cast-iron bathtub resting on lion’s paws and a gigantic double sink from around 1900, both from a French castle; a large, modern walk-in shower with antique tiles; old-style radiators; original 18th-century floors and ceilings, a rare antique electric stove in nearly mint condition that we were able to acquire from a 90-year-old lady, a romantic bedroom with super-comfortable beds and numerous antiques, and the open-concept, cozy living room with many authentic relics (historic stone wall and remnants of wallpaper) that we uncovered during the renovation in collaboration with the historic preservation office.
Courtyard and Garden:
The romantic courtyard seating area—preserved near the former pigsties and authentically renovated—with its massive 18th-century sandstone slabs, along with the beautiful natural garden featuring native plants, invite you to relax and unwind even outside the building.
Immerse yourself in the bygone era of an 18th-century self-sufficient farmstead.
You’ll find plenty of ideas for day trips and more information about the “Hoher Hirschen” on our website.
Another rental property in the historic “Hoher Hirschen” building—a smaller, very charming studio for up to 2 people—is also listed directly on FeWo direkt.
