Samedan is not only the district capital, but also the hub of the Rhaetian Railway and home to a small international airport, the highest in Europe.
Despite its economic importance, it has retained its Engadine way of life: in the village centre, traditional rows of houses with sgraffiti make for picture postcard subjects.
