The apartment is on the first floor of a three-family house built in 1920. The house is located in Alt-Weil, across from the Weil-Ost train station and not far from the border with Riehen, Switzerland. Since the building is quite old, it creaks in strong winds and is otherwise somewhat prone to noise. But that’s part of the charm of both the apartment and the building. The tiled stove in the living room (not in use) and the stucco ceiling are original features. In front of the apartment is a seating area that’s a wonderful place to linger on warm evenings and nights. It’s an ideal starting point for short bike rides into Switzerland or France, as well as toward Lörrch-Wiesental.
The town of Weil am Rhein is located in the border triangle of: D-CH-F. It is surrounded by vineyards that are perfect for wonderful walks.
The Vitra Campus of the international furniture manufacturer is well worth a visit. Likewise, the proximity to Basel—with its countless museums, theaters, plays, and music events—offers plenty of cultural highlights. Particularly worth mentioning and seeing are the local Fasnacht, the Guggeexplosion in Lörrach, and the Basel Fasnacht, which has been an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage site since 2017. You also shouldn’t miss the Basel Tattoo—the second-largest open-air tattoo in the world! It takes place every July for one week. www.baseltattoo.ch
