Tom's property is the ideal location for families. The house has charm and character and plenty of room. The three bedrooms upstairs all have ceiling fans, and there are plenty of linens and towels for all. The downstairs bathroom is updated and has a great shower. The kitchen is well stocked, with plates and utensils for at least 12, and many pots and pans. The dishwasher is very handy! The large and clean fridge was appreciated. There is also a gas grill. Tom is very responsive should you have a question or concern about anything.
We spent hours in the front room overlooking the lake. Perfect for games and meals. We all got a kick out of the motorized raft, which is a Star Lake thing. You can motor out of Tom's bay and take a right to visit the very popular sand bar, where people picnic and swim for the day. The small lake has lots of nooks and crannies to explore, which we did both by "barge" and by canoe.
The bunkhouse is perfect for extra guests. It can easily sleep four, but might get very warm. The ceiling fan helps but we brought another fan with us and that was useful. The bathroom there has a sink and shower. It also has a compost toilet which we did not use.
The town of Star Lake is pretty small. The local grocery store is limited with questionable produce, but the Circle K convenience store, a 5-minute walk up the street, has fresher items, as well as subs and pizza.
There is no internet but excellent Verizon cell phone connectivity. There is every DVD imaginable so really no need for Netflix. There is a small selection of board games, and we highly recommend the Life Twists and Turns game. Many laughs!
There's a road around the lake about 4 miles long, which makes for a nice walk or bike ride. But you'll probably spend most of your time like we did: relaxing on the lawn in the sun or shade, swimming to the dock, or cruising to the sand bar. There are neighbors close by, and afternoons and early evenings are filled with summer noises of happy children playing in the water. We had great views of the sunset and the stars, and the nights are very quiet. What's nice about this lake is that there are only a handful of small motor boats and jet skis on it, so it's relatively quiet. Just about every house has a motorized raft and that's everyone's preferred mode of water transportation. It's something to see.
Thanks, Tom, for a relaxing week!
