A wonderful fortnight in the Tuscan countryside

We spent a wonderful two weeks in Ortone - it's a lovely property with views to die for. The property is effectively divided into three - two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms upstairs, one double bed with an en suite downstairs and two other bedrooms in a separate bit of the property: perfect for a family with teenagers. We spent lots of time in the pool, which is helpfully shaded for much of the day (note however the shallow end isn't very shallow if you have kids who aren't confident swimmers). Neale's copious directions and restaurant advice were very helpful. Lots of wildlife - we saw deer and some very tame hares. Strongly recommend pizza evening! I have given 5 stars for everything but the location is quite remote. That's exactly what we wanted, but be aware the nearest large supermarket and major towns are 30 minutes plus away.

Paradise

Ortone was the perfect destination for what we envisioned a Tuscan city to be. The home was well stocked, wonderful location and our host helped with coordinating tours, cooking lessons and providing other recommendations. I highly recommend this property for anyone. Close to wineries, major cities and also the quiet laid back Italian lifestyle, Ortone is highly recommended! We spent the week in paradise!

Perfect Tuscan countryside vacation

Everything about Ortone was perfect - the villa is gorgeous, very clean, and the hosts' attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The view is AMAZING. I know everyone talks about the sheep grazing in the hillside but it really makes it so special. The town of Radicondoli is very quaint and pretty - wonderful for exploring. Neale is one of the best hosts I have ever had the pleasure of booking with. He helped plan our entire stay, from a private dinner to winery suggestions to pizza in the Loggia. He communicated every step of the way to ensure we would have a lovely time. I can't say enough about the villa, the town, Tuscany, or the hosts. We will definitely be back.

Heerlijke en bijzondere tijd in Podere-Ortonr

Een bevoorrechte plek om met onze familie de verjaardag van het oudste familie lid en paar dagen later het jongste familielid te vieren! Gezellig huis met views waar je naar moet blijven kijken. Sfeervolle loggia met een heerlijke pizzanight en de avond daarna een Italiaans feestdiner verzorgd door Liana en vriendin. Ook zelf gekookt in de goed geoutilleerde keuken. Geweldige tips van Neale gekregen tijdens makkelijk en plezierig contact. Komen zeker terug! Vinden het een hemelse plek om te verblijven!

Wow just wow

This was hands-down the most amazing vacation rental we have ever had—and we have traveled all over the world and have been to Tuscany many times. The house was homey but also beautiful and is such a loving restoration! The solar heated pool and outdoor loggia were incredible and our hosts were amazing! Neale helped us arrange a pizza chef to cook us the most amazing meal in the pizza oven and sent us to his friend’s B&B and an amazing restaurant one town over. Our teenagers were able to walk to town to get coffee and gelato and the house was perfectly maintained by the caretaker who came early each morning and never disturbed us. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful house, spectacular view

We stayed at Podere Ortone for two weeks in late May early June of 2022. The house was as nice as the pictures and description promised, but the view from the property was way more spectacular than expected. We enjoyed it every day. The house is occupied by the owners in the off-season, which shows in the quality of cookware, dinnerware and furniture. The house feels entirely isolated (in a good way) while being only a few minutes away from charming Radicondoli, where three excellent restaurants can be found, as well as a small but well stocked grocery store, two bakeries and a wine store. Neale was very responsive to any question or request and provided us a lot of useful information. He set up a pizza dinner cooked at the loggia (the covered terrasse next to the house) which was delicious and memorable. He also had excellent wine delivered to the house from a local producer, at unbeatable prices. The house, pool and grounds are very well maintained by Pier Luigi, who comes by a few times a week. We had a great stay and highly recommend this property.

Traumhafte Lage

Das schöne Haus liegt in einer traumhaften Umgebung. Obwohl nur wenige Autominuten unter dem kleinen Ort Radicondoli gelegen, genießt man hier eine traumhafte Ruhe bei fantastischem Ausblick. Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet und die Ausstattung perfekt. An der Pool-Landschaft mit schönen und reichlich vorhandenen Sonnenliegen kann man stundenlang verweilen, auch weil es schöne Bäume gibt, die für Schatten sorgen. Der Kontakt zum Eigentümer ist aussergewöhnlich nett mit superschnellen Antworten und es gab sogar ein Willkommenspaket. Podere Ortone hat eindeutig fünf Sterne verdient. Anton

Fantastic Stay

What a great time in this beautiful place of tranquility surrounded by Tuscan nature. I guess we fell in love with Ortone when we booked, looking at the pictures - and reality was even better. Thank you for the warm welcome, all the great ideas for activities and the open ear at all times. We really enjoyed being at Ortone! It is the perfect place for day trips to the magical places in Tuscany. Highly recommended and we hope to be back soon.

A wonderful week at Ortone!

We rented Neale's villa in September for a week and had a spectacular trip! First off Neale made it very easy to schedule all of our logistics and his detailed instructions and directions made getting there and getting settled a breeze. Their caretaker Piere Luigi was there to greet us and with the help of Google Translate we were off and running. The setting is spectacular, can not say enough about the vista from every window and the drive to the village of Radicondoli is less than 5-minutes, it is a dirt road as Neale points out. Radicondoli is a charming and beautiful village, the people were all very kind and we truly felt immersed in the Tuscan lifestyle. Neale's recommendations for restaurants all worked out perfectly with our favorite being in Mansona and Roberto (the owner) so kind. We did three meals there! We had our two children with us 5 and 22months and they loved the house, the views with the sheep in the background and the village! The pool was used although it was chilly a new heating system had been installed and we were there in late September so to be expected. I would highly recommend the Villa and if you are looking for peace, beautiful settings and a well equipped Villa for your stay as well as ease of travel to other locations Ortone is perfect for that!

Amazing villa in Radicondoli!

What a fantastic stay in Radicondoli!! We loved every minute. The villa itself is gorgeous with 5 very spacious bedrooms, a well appointed kitchen, beautiful artwork throughout, a gym, and a lovely outdoor dining area. Each morning, we would eat breakfast outside and watch across the hills as the sheep would graze before the sun got too hot. We loved lounging by the gorgeous pool. The town of Radicondoli is so sweet, and the villa is central to other surrounding towns (highly recommend to Volterra).

Beautiful home and location! Greats hosts.

We rented Neale and Elaine’s villa for almost 3 weeks with family and friends and had an amazing experience! The setting is incredible, all the pictures and descriptions are true to form! The village was charming as well. The hosts provided a really solid list of places to eat in nearby towns, and we tried almost all of them with few disappointments. La Pergola at sunset is a must! We cooked, went swimming, and explored and couldn’t have had a nicer stay!

I never write these reviews, but felt compelled to post given our expeierence. Podere Ortone is exactly what one would think of when creating an ideal Tuscan experience. Large country farmhouse, large pool, wonderfully equipped kitchen, impeccably clean and enough space for either a single family or large gathering. All set overlooking a valley featuring beautiful vistas and the occasional sheep. What more do you want? The place is perfect.

Wonderful house in a lovely, quiet location

7 of us (ages ranging from 13 to 76) stayed at Ortone for two weeks in August and had a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The house has modern amenities but is beautifully decorated and retains its charm and character. The air conditioning in the bedrooms is very welcome but the main areas of the house stay relatively cool even on the hottest of days. We spent a lot of time in the loggia - dining, reading, painting and relaxing - it is a perfect space.The view from the well-equipped pool area is stunning and the more active among us had pool races, table tennis tournaments and visited the gym. The house is in a very secluded location (it is difficult to see it from any vantage point in the area) approximately 1km below Radicondoli. It is a challenging uphill walk into town but we did it many times as we were never in a hurry and the scenery was breathtaking. Radicondoli is a charming place and we made daily use of the bakery, small shops, bar and restaurants. We also visited Siena, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni which were all very impressive but we didn't feel the need to travel too far as we had everything we wanted at Ortone. The owners could not have been more helpful and genuinely do everything they can to ensure you have a great holiday. We received a lovely welcome pack (including olive oil from Ortone's grove which surrounds the house), suggestions of places to visit (along with the best times to go) and they even booked the best table at their favourite restaurant in Radicondoli for us on arrival. Their attention to detail was very much appreciated. Ortone is a wonderful property and has left us with some precious memories.

Great house! So quiet and pieceful!

It's such a great place in the heart of Tuscany! Radicondoli is a small but very charming town and close to Siena... so it was really easy to travel different places. Ortone - The house is sooooo pieceful and quite- such a great place to spend time With fiends and enjoy a great holiday! Definitely will come back another time! It was great. The communication with the owner was also really easy and fast... so we felt welcome at any time! Thanks!

Perfect Family Getaway

Our family group, two couples, four children ranging from 9 to 16 sent a blissful 3 weeks at Ortone this summer. We have stayed in many villas over the years, but this was definitely the best ever. The house is beautifully decorated with every necessary amenity. The bedrooms are large and airy, with the option of air conditioning when the heat gets too much. The pergola outside is perfect for dining al fresco, with beautiful views over the valley. The pool is large, with plenty of sun beds, umbrellas and loads of games should the need take you to move! We had table tennis and badminton tournaments and the really active visited the gym. The owners provided us with a fantasy welcome pack outlining the best in local restaurants and lots of suggestions for day trips and sightseeing too. The problem is that Ortone is so glorious, it's almost impossible to leave! The caretaker, Pierluigi, maintains the grounds perfectly and his wife comes in one a week to clean. It was immaculate and nothing we asked was too much. While in this area we would recommend trips to Siena, Volterra and if going further afield, up to Florence and the coast. There are three restaurants in the village that Neale recommends, we tried and loved all of them.

Perfect house, pool & grounds in unspoilt Tuscany

Ten of us (two families with grown-up children) stayed at Ortone for a week in early July and had the most wonderful holiday. The house, grounds and pool lived up to expectations in every respect – private, spacious, pristinely kept, exquisite views, lovely pool, just outside a village. The main bedrooms upstairs are beautifully furnished, with contemporary en-suite shower rooms. They were all very comfortable, including the ones in “the apartment” downstairs. The living room, dining room and kitchen (well-equipped) are well laid out (top class TV in the small upstairs lounge for watching some Wimbledon and the Euros + great selection of books and DVDs) although, because of perfect weather, we spent the vast majority of our time down by the pool or in the wonderful outdoor loggia, where there is a big table where we could all sit together and comfy chairs to read and play games. The pristine swimming pool has an exquisite view over the valley across and below the house, the evening light being particularly stunning. We all enjoyed the fire flies as dusk fell – having none of us ever seen them before, they compounded the magic of the place. We particularly enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, eating in the loggia, sunbathing on the loungers and dipping into the pool to cool off! We would also recommend Radicondole as a pretty & friendly Italian hill village (more heavenly views) – several times some of us walked up - slowly! as the drive and lane are very steep - to the village in the morning for bread & bits & bobs from the little Co-op, or in the evening for a drink at one of the three bar/restaurants. We all had an excellent meal at La Pergola – delicious food and breathtaking sunset from the terrace (we pre-booked our table for 10), and we also enjoyed a day trip to Siena and shorter trips to some of the nearby hill villages. The driving was easy as the local roads were good and seemed quite empty in early July. The owners gave us very helpful notes and instructions. They were very responsive and it felt that they had carefully and kindly thought of everything we might need to know and to make us feel welcome in their exquisite property. We would love to come back and enjoy the magic of Ortone again one day!

Stunning Holiday Destination

We had an amazing time at Ortone, barely able to drag ourselves away to sample the delights of Radicondoli and Sienna. The villa is situated in beautiful, quiet countryside and the owners have considered every detail when equipping and furnishing the property. It was clean and well maintained, and gardeners and pool maintenance staff turned up of and on during our stay. The information provided on the website gives a very comprehensive description of the property, and the owner Neale gave us additional helpful advice and tips on getting the best out of the surrounding area starting with beating the queue for hire cars at Pisa airport and a route from Pisa which passed through some stunning countryside. Neale also provided a comprehensive guide to local (and not so local) restaurants which was invaluable. In Radicondoli we ate at Agriteca and La Pergola both of which provided a warm welcome and great food. La Pergola’s terrace also offered a fantastic view of the surrounding countryside and spectacular sunsets. In Sienna we lunched at Osteria Le Logge, one of Neale's favourites, and were not disappointed. We also had ice cream at Nannini in Sienna en route to the Campo. But most of the time we enjoyed the tranquillity of Ortone, the pool, the gym and barbeques, and watching the stars and fireflys from the loggia. In summary, we felt like house guests enjoying a much loved home in a beautiful part of the world.
