Overall, this would have been a perfect place for me EXCEPT foul scents from time to time in general, along with uncomfortable scents in kitchen cupboards/etc, was actually SEWER GAS LEAK. I thought the issue was cleanliness, and because I planned to be there for 2.5 months, I would just clean it myself. Almost a month in, a significantly strong sewer smell came up from the bathroom sink and drains, and I became sick with acute symptoms and asked to leave. Note: there was a sewer smell on my first day, but I thought host had remedied the problem when I addressed it, as that specific smell went away. Since leaving this VRBO location, I have been bedridden for a week and in touch with 2 doctors. With all bloodwork and X-rays taken, the final diagnosis was sewer gases in my digestive track - “gases de esgoto” (ou pantano). The doctor at the hospital explained, had I stayed much longer, I could have gone into a coma.Although the host had been as accommodating as possible while I was there, he was dismissive of my symptoms and cause. This concerns me for others who will want to rent. I did let him know of the doctor’s diagnosis, so he can find a professional to take care of necessary plumbing. We left it at that. Reluctant at first, he did refund the money for the remaining time after I moved out. Book at your own risk.Note mold behind seats, rust on silverware, and decaying particle board (w humidity) furniture in pictures were other issues I did not know about until there.
