Amidst a local (major) renovation that was taking much longer than expected, our family required temporary residence close to our daughter’s school and activities. With a stroke of luck we came upon the listing of a lovely white period home in a prime Grosse Pointe neighborhood and immediately reached out to the owners to see if we might be accommodated.
With some initial skepticism from both parties due to us being “strangers” we signed our agreement and started making preparations. We moved into the home very late in the evening after a huge day of packing/storing/etc, way too tired to notice much of anything except the perfectly made beds that awaited us.
Upon waking and starting to get acquainted with the property we immediately understood why the owners were protective of this home: It had clearly been very lovingly cared for, thoughtfully updated, with tons of attention paid to every detail a guest might require. The house was, in a word - PRISTINE.
We very quickly came to feel “at home” in this delightful, super cozy Grosse Pointe gem. With everything exactly where you would expect it should be, the owners have literally thought of EVERYTHING, providing the perfect temporary housing experience. Not only is the home adorable and perfectly furnished, but everything right down to notepads, pens, and even emergency postage stamps has been thought of. The internet speed is terrific, ample parking, great TVs for relaxing, mood lighting, and the house is QUIET!
The beds are super comfy with ample extra linens. The kitchen is provisioned with everything you need, the bathrooms are wonderful, tons of towels, the ambience is lovely and being just a few steps from the local police provides for amazing peace of mind (and deep sleeping!)
There is a lovely patio in the backyard that we did not use as we were there in winter, but we thought about how much guests would enjoy sitting out there for tea in the morning or a glass of wine after work.
With our reno almost complete it was time for us to pack up and head to our “real home”… we were excited, but after a few months stay we were also nostalgic to leave our ‘storybook house”. The owners were tremendously accommodating, and I have to admit, we took many notes about how well this house maintained in hopes to do even HALF a good a job at our own home as these folks have done in this property! We have tremendous respect for the owners. We’re proud to call them newfound friends.
