Donegal Cottage

Margaret and her daughter Grainne are delightful hosts! Their cottage is spotless and peaceful. A short drive to so many wonderful places to visit on the peninsula and beyond. We enjoyed sitting by the fire after a day of hiking and exploring.

Very nice and quiet place

Margret and Michael are a very nice couple who welcomed us very friendly. We really enjoyed our Stay in the Little house and fanad Island is a very nice place for outdoor activities.

Pure Ireland

The location and the house fully met our expectations: in nature, beautiful views, ideal base for car and bike rides and tranquillity! The house was super clean and equipped with all basic comforts. Spacious parking. The environment is enchantingly beautiful. Definitely a place to go back to. Margaret spoiled us with local products and when saying goodbye after a stay of more than 5 weeks a few beautiful wine glasses. Superhost.

Prachtige locatie. Moet wel in bezit van auto zijn. Vriendelijke verhuurders.

Voor een verblijf in Donegal een prachtige plek, schoon, gastvrij en in een mooie omgeving. Niet super luxe maar dat wordt door de rest ruimschoots gecompenseerd.

Brilliant holiday

Margaret and Michael are lovely. We had a lovely holiday and the cottage was what we wanted and is well located to beaches, drives and towns. Will be returning!!

Best Hosts ever!

We chose this cute cottage because of previous reviews and they were spot on. Margaret and Michael were delightful hosts with great knowledge of the regional attractions and history. The cottage has all amenities you will need for your Northwestern Ireland vacation. Enjoy quiet nights by a lovely fire after your days activities. Sheep and cows will provide quiet restful morning views. We went to Fanad to attend a music festival in Dunfanaghy and got a lesson in driving on narrow country roads. Be prepared! The area has lovely beaches, awesome mountains and the friendliest people we’ve ever met. Returning to the lovely cottage in Fanad is on our bucket list

Fanad - a pearl of Ireland

We have been to three different regions in Ireland so far and this was the nicest stay. The McElwee family are extremely friendly and nice people. Margaret and Michael lovingly looked after us. For questions they were always there as a contact person for us. We were supplied with vegetables, delicious jams and scones. A highlight were Michael's self-grown potatoes, which were much more intense flavor than the German. The occasional conversations with the McElwees were very interesting and informative for our upcoming ventures. You also learn something about life from the point of view of the locals. The house was extremely clean and very comfortable. Everything you need is there and you can take care of yourself. A Lidl was nearby in Milford. In the evening you could sit comfortably in front of the peat fire and plan the next day. The house was deliberately chosen by us, because here you live very quiet and a little secluded from the next larger village. Perfect for relaxing. In the morning we share the peace and the coffee with the cattle and sheep grazing in the surrounding pastures without traffic noise and tourists hordes :-). The central location, from which many sights of Donegal and Northern Ireland, from Slieve League to Belfast, can be reached within a day's trip. On and near the Fanad peninsula there are several headlands with beautiful cliff and sea views for hiking. Even beaches are very beautiful on Fanad. Actually, the weather does not play a decisive role. For almost any weather conditions, there are opportunities for things to do and destinations. We will definitely be back again in the next years. A wonderful Holiday

The Cottage is even nicer in real than on the Picture. We had wonderful landlords, very helpful . Michael brought us regularly vegetables and Turf for the fireplace and Margaret even thought of putting Irish Music on on and flowers in the living room when we arrived !The house was very clean and we had everything a holidaymaker could Need . We´ll certainly come back !

Best holidays in a long time!

It was already our third stay in Fanad/Donegal at one of Margaret and Michael's cottages. We love this very special, beautiful and unspoilt area of Ireland a lot and we are very fond of our hosts. Margaret and Michael are the kindest and friendliest people. They are helpful and make you feel welcome at arrival with a fire and lovely food. The cottage is cosy and clean and has all the comfort we needed. We hope to return to Fanad some time soon. Daniela R. (Switzerland)

Dieses Ferienhaus kann man nur empfehlen, da gerade der unmittelbare Kontakt zum Vermieter ein sehr gutes Gefühl gibt. Man fühlt sich anerkannt und willkommen.
