The setting for my wife and my mid February Vancouver Island mini vacation was at Fisherman's Wharf on James Bay.
Carene's cozy studio float home room was a fun place to stay that was close to all of the events we were participating in (la Boheme at Royal Theatre, pub crawling and shopping in Downtown Victoria, and dining in the Inner Harbour).
Most of the venues at Fisherman's Wharf are closed during the winter months, but the water taxis are open for business and a great bargain at $6 per person.
And the walk from Carene's float home to the Inner Harbour is short.
Carene's place was perfect for the two for us. Warm, cozy and a gentle sway when the weather outside was cold, wet and blustery. Carene's home is nicely decorated with a small fridge and coffee maker and that was all we needed. We felt secure and safe in Carene's float home, especially at night when arriving home late. Carene provided just the right amount of care for us while keeping our place very private.
The breakfast portion of the B&B is at a restaurant called Imagine, that is close in proximity to Carene's float home. We had the best lattes and breakfast there we can remember. Great ambiance and warm, friendly staff and proprietors.
Storage space on any Float home is at a premium and Carene did her very best to provide as much space as she could. We felt that perhaps some of the cleaning supplies located in the bathroom cabinet could be reallocated and shelved back to a closet that held a vacuum, mops, etc. That would free up some space for my wife's makeup and my shaving kit, instead of living out of a suitcase.
All in all, we felt very comfortable and safe under Carene's roof. We can hardly wait to come back when all the venues are open at the wharf and the weather is warm.
