This well equiped apartment in the pretty little town of Ratece close to the Italian border is the perfect place to stay for walking or just relaxing in Slovenia. The town of Ratece does have a perfectly good little shop and quite a few restuarants itself, but is only a short car journey to the larger town of Kranjska Gora for plenty more options for shops and activities. The views from the huge first floor balcony are just breathtaking - I had been a bit worried about being close to the road going in to Italy as I hate traffic noise (after looking at the location on Google satalite map), but I was pleasantly surprised that the road was not as busy as I had expected and it did not disturb me in the least. The pool table and table tennis table in the basement, not forgetting the wi-fi connection, was perfect to keep the teenagers entertained so that I could enjoy the view from the balcony in peace! The management agency Think Slovenia provided an excellent service throughout; there was good communication and they were able to arrange our car hire. There were plenty of walking routes nearby or within a short drive to keep us happy for three weeks (with a few days off for swimming in the many lakes close by). We also enjoyed hiring bikes from Kranjska Gora, fantastic value at only 12 euros for the day each at the sports shop opposite the supermarket in the town centre, and cycling along the relatively flat disused railway line which has been converted into a cycle path (goes into Italy too) - great change for easing off tired walking legs.
