This was a really well kept and nice property. It had all the amenities we needed for our short stay in St Louis. The property manager was very easy to work with. Would definitely stay here again.

Urban VRBO in St Louis
This is a nice, small VRBO. The location is near St Louis U Hospital, very urban area. The unit is on the second floor with a narrow staircase, only an issue when carrying luggage. The building is older, so the walls are by definition going to be thinner, less closet space and fewer wall outlets. There was not excessive noise from other units in the building. The surrounding area is nice and there is on street parking in front of the unit. I was a little put off by all of the added fees, which make the unit more expensive than advertised.

Not as pictured
The property was not as listed. It smelled horrible. The walls/floors are paper thin. It was very loud. Neighborhood was not the greatest and sketchy at night. Landlord was easily reachable and did refund the unused days.

Clean and just right!
We enjoyed our 4 nights in this apartment, it was clean and convenient to so many things! It took a minute to figure out the light switches and outlets, but we made it work. Parking was always available and the building is quiet.

Great place in a great location
This is a very nice and comfortable apartment in a cool and upcoming neighborhood.
GOOD: spacious and well appointed 2nd floor apartment with plenty of street parking and one block from a lovely park.
LESS GOOD: Small things like the lighting. Kitchen needs better lighting and better/more things. (i.e. no wine opener, very few pots/pans) Not terrible but I had to change two lights in the kitchen to make it workable. Cheap fluorescent lighting in the ceiling fixture made it seem like a haunted house display.
OVERALL: WOULD DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN. It was a great place.

Great pandemic road trip
The apartment was perfect for us, a short drive to downtown with easy on street parking. We found St. Louis to be very covid safe and everyone respected the regulations.

Super clean and convenient - just what we needed!
This property had plenty of parking, was easy to find and check into. Note you do need to climb up a flight of stairs to get to it! The apartment was beautifully appointed and comfortable. There is a gorgeous sunroom as well! Two things to note: if you are someone who needs complete darkness to sleep, be sure to bring a mask - there are no blinds on the door to the sunroom and the streetlights filter in. Also - there's only power on one side of the bed. Your partner will need to charge their phone on the other side of the room :-)
Overall - very happy with our stay and the property owners were very accommodating and flexible given our travel situation with our pets!

The Marquette Buillding is owned by City Castle LLC operated by Lisa Gallagher and Devon Rucker. We bought the building from Jim Roos of Neighborhood Enterprises. Jim had a long history of working with the city to improve St. Louis City neighborhoods. Like many cities, it suffered through a period of suburban flight leaving the city without the tax base and investment to keep the city vibrant. When we took over the building in 2016, the area was just seeing signs of true investment and diversity. This is my favorite building in my portfolio. Totaling 12 units, the apartment building was the 4th 3 story building in the area. One other 3 story building ibuilt by the same builder is the Lafayette which sits opposite the Marquette Building. The St. Louis Daily Globe penned an article, dated December 8 1812, chronicling the building's ground breaking. The building's construction cost a whopping $30,000 back then which was considered to be a tidy sum.
Immediately after the 3 bedroom apartment now known as The Retreat became vacant, Lisa went about creating a variable stay rental with furnishings acquired in antique shops and from other sources in the area. The art work in the unit exmplifies people from around the world. Since Lisa is a world traveler, she loves the experience of meeting and knowing people from all over the world. She feels that world travel is a humbling and mind opening experience that offers the greatest opportunity for world peace.

Lisa was excited about The Marquette Building's architecture and potential since the previous owner had only partially renovated the building prior to sale.

The buidling is conveniently located in the heart of the city close to Downtown, The Central West End, Botanical Heights, Forest Park, Tower Grove Park and all of St. Louis' attractions. It is a 10 minute commute to almost any city attraction.
