This turned out to be a great place for our family Thanksgiving trip with two dogs and two small children. (Pet-friendly rentals are limited, so we appreciated Fletcher House allowing us to bring the pups!) The house is older, as indicated in the listing information, but with the exception of the downstairs shower, everything was in good working order, clean, and comfortable.
I was pleased to find such a well-stocked kitchen since we were not only making regular meals, but a Thanksgiving dinner. Rentals typically have minimal kitchen amenities, but there was a great selection of kitchen items here. The house is also well-stocked with trash bags and cleaning supplies, which was very helpful and appreciated.
The rural location meant a drive into Asheville for attractions. It took us about 20 minutes to drive to the Biltmore, but it was a relatively easy drive, as was the trip to one of the area falls off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The location and property were great for our pups and our two grandsons, ages six and two. The house is one of several at the end of a rural road and private drive, so the only traffic was residents and guests. Fletcher House has a nice big yard, which was great for the pups and our grandsons, ages six and two. We took lots of long walks and played in the yard. There's no fence around the yard, and since the house sits up on a hill, there are pretty steep drop-offs on one side of the yard. So we had to keep a close eye on the little ones, but it wasn't a problem.
In addition to a well-stocked kitchen, the host has provided lots of other helpful detailed amenities which were nice, such as flashlights (it's pretty dark out in the country!), extra jackets, games and movies for families. And our six-year-old grandson enjoyed learning to play ping pong in the basement.
I believe it may be stated in the property description, but the upstairs has no heat. That turned out to not be an issue for us, as we didn't need the upstairs bedrooms (some family who had planned to come weren't able to make it). We were there over Thanksgiving week when temps were in the 50s-60s and down in the 30s-40s at night. And it did get fairly chilly upstairs. That might be a consideration for some families. But the house did have an adequate supply of blankets and extra cover.
All in all, we had a great stay at Fletcher House and it worked well for our family and our trip! Thank you, Roy, for a great stay!
