Ataviros is the highest mountain of Rhodes and Dodecanese at an altitude of 1,216 meters. It is located to the west of the island and on its slopes are built the villages of Embona and Agios Isidoros. Around the mountain are the most important vineyards of the island, where the Mandilaria (Amorgianos), Athiri and other varieties are traditionally grown. who give PDO wines. The area is also famous for its very good souma, which is the Rhodian version of tsipouro. Attibros has significant flora and fauna and is therefore included in the Natura 2000 network.
On the northwest slopes, at the place of Katarti, there is the magnificent forest of Kyparissia, which is declared a Monument of Nature. At the top of the mountain there is a temple of Atlas of Zeus. On days when there is no humidity in the atmosphere, Karpathos and many more of the Dodecanese as well as the inland of Rhodes are visible.
