We spent the month of January in this canal front home. This was our first stay in Key Largo and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It got off to a bit of a rocky start as unknown to Emilce and Stephanie there had been a power surge, probably due to lightning, that knocked out the washer, two air conditioners, the TV and the cable box. When We called Emilce, she immediately got to work and very quickly she had all the appliances replaced while profusely apologizing for our inconvenience. I bring this incident up just to indicate how responsible and accommodating they were. No one can plan for such an event, but the response could not have been better. All of the rest of our stay was great. We used the kayaks most days to paddle in the canals with the manatees. I believe we saw manatees every day that we were there and many times they came right up to the dock in front of the house. Everything about the visit was great, but I must say the manatee sightings were the highlight.
The location was very convenient. We walked to the farmers market/fish market/outdoor restaurants on a regular basis to buy produce and fresh fish and frequently to have lunch. We also were in easy walking distance of Publix and K-mart. It was a very short drive to John Pennekamp state park where we took walks, went out to a beautiful reef on a glass bottomed boat, and kayaked among mangrove lined channels. There were also several other state parks nearby where we want for pleasant nature walks. Another highlight was the nearby Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center
Altogether this was a great place to miss winter. The description of the house on VRBO was accurate and Emilce and Stephanie were outstanding landlords.
